Re: greatest old films
Zulu, Sanders of the River, Bridge on the River Kwai and the one with Sean Connery and Michael Caine up in the Hills north of India were good movies. The latter was a Kipling tale and had the word K-I-N-G in the title.

Airplane! Starring Robert Hager, Julie Hagerty, Leslie Nielsen, Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges and a whole raft of other great actors and actresses is as entraining today as it was more that 40 years ago.

Re: greatest old films
young guns 1988 the musical score one of the
highlights. i think bon-jovi with rousing themes
in a plot twist , two english ranchers go at it with
one killing other and somehow billy the kid involved
supposedly biographically accurate 1878 new mexico territory

Re: greatest old films
I don't recall Sidney Poitier in Young Guns, Cali, or any Nuns.
I must say it's bloody marvellous that you're back online. I thought you'd thrown a wobbly and resorted to stalking Niggly.
Things are grand at the moment, aren't they, readers. I have Jack, DM, Uncle T, Cali, Alan, Desmond and Teacher Dan to keep me interested. Just like old times!
Oh, sorry, greatest old films; how about Vertigo with Jimmy Stewart, a ruddy classic in my view.

Re: greatest old films
it is largely biographically accurate. john dunstall
being an english rancher in 1878 new mexico. and
his protagonist, an irish fellow with similar interests.
the history alone makes it interesting. now don't
start with fibs/ making up stories like your english mates earnest. that's when things got unpleasant

Re: greatest old films
I'm not sure Treasure Island finished up in New Mexico, Uncle T, but I'm willing to be shown otherwise. And you can be rest assured, Cali, that I won't make up any stories, hand on heart.

Re: greatest old films
I was nominating 'Treasure Island' as a great movie. For something that ends in New Mexico, perhaps it was Billy the Kid who met his maker in that State, However, I'm not sure there are any good movies about the Kid! Honest Injun...whoops...I mean Scout's Honour.

I liked that one. A great yarn by Kipling set in Afghanistan I believe.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑January 12, 2022, 11:20 amthe one with Sean Connery and Michael Caine up in the Hills north of India were good movies. The latter was a Kipling tale and had the word K-I-N-G in the title.
The good old British army teaching the natives how to slaughter each other. They killed many a fuzzy wuzzy and shagged the local girls until the Scottish guy got too arrogant and fell off a bridge.
The English fella got back to civilised India with his head if I remember correctly.
Aah, it was great being English in those days.

A crucial writer and poet within the English canon, Cali.
It still is, Barry.
