Air activity

Post by tamada » January 11, 2022, 8:35 am

That's the second morning of what sounds like a mass take-off from Oodorn AFB. Are the Singaporean's in town on a training session or any joint exercises underway at the moment?

Not the usual Alpha Jets, Tam? Is something bigger flying out?

Goes on for well over a minute. Very loud and continuous with surges. From my memories of RNAS Lossiemouth, sounds like multiple, close-sequence take offs? Just wondered if someone nearer the ends of the runways could eyeball them.

Moot point now. Not heard same since Monday.

Good link parrot, thanks.

"...He said the sound levels were measured from 64.8 to 65.2 decibels, which is too loud for inhabited areas. ..."

Not sure where these off-end runway db meters are and if the readings are accurate. I am on the east ring road and it's bloody loud way out here on my west-facing patio. Mind you, I can sometimes hear the platform announcements at the railway station too. Might be some trick of early morning temperature inversion and the velocity of sound in air.

Oops....someone just took off. Single jet this time.

You guys in town only get it for a few seconds, we get it for hours as they use the airspace over our Tambon (North on Ban Dung) to do there exercises and have done so for years, roaring as I type this. OK, quite entertaining at times.

Sounds like they go low level in your part of the world.

When I was a boy, my dad was posted as a village police constable in northeast Scotland. His beat included an MOD defined "low flying zone" for the NA39 Blackburn Buccaneers on training out of RNAS Lossiemouth. He had all sorts of additional duties and equipment in case of a crash or a rescue operation. This included a Martin-Baker ejection seat, minus the explosive release charges, so he could practice or demonstrate pilot rescues. Me, my sister and mum all volunteered at one time or another to be the "pilot". I started charging for mates to come and see it and sit in it. After the Chief Superintendent found out, it was taken away. They also took away his police-issue bike since the only one using it was me. My dad was a constable all his career. Strange that.

nothing matches the 73-75 time frame when I lived fairly close to the airbase and pairs of F-4's would take off together each day at 0700 in the morning... Full afterburner roar..
