Laos visa update

Post by Fuzzy Ken » May 25, 2022, 1:53 pm

Laos visa update

25 May 22: It has been announced that visa on arrival (VOA) facilities are now available at all entry points. Alternatively, get an eVisa online.

New fee is $40 for all nationalities apart from Chinese and Vietnamese nationals who will pay $20.

Make sure that your banknotes are in very good condition and your passport has at least one blank page for the visa.

It never ceases to amaze me that when there are few people around, the price goes up, instead of offering some promotional deal to attract customers.
In my opinion, better to offer a period, say 3 or 6 months, to allow all visitors to enter free of charge or perhaps have a small “administrative” fee. Apart from anything else, it would be good PR, but Asian mentality does not always recognise the value.
However, on the credit side, it would appear that getting into Laos is currently less problematic than getting into Thailand.

I have not as yet seen anything reported, but suspect that the long-standing arrangements for nationals of bordering countries to remain unchanged.

Does anyone have first-hand information on this ?

The Lao eVisa is US$50 for most applicants. The same visa, if required by an ASEAN member state applicant (staying longer than 3 days and/or traveling further than the border area) is US$35.

For clarity, visa-on-arrival is still available at the new rate of US$40 or 2000 baht. Obviously cheaper to pay with baht.

Actually it would be cheaper to pay in US $, unless that was sarcasm, then nevermind.

You're correct Ken.

I'm having a bad crypto morning.

It’s all good. I don’t understand why the large discrepancy in pricing. Even at today’s rate it’s a $17 difference in pricing between using the baht and US Dollar. Guess they don’t like the Thai baht 😀
