Transfer motorbike from other province

Post by Whistler » July 1, 2022, 12:47 pm

I have just returned home after a 3.5 hr saga at Transport building 1 in Udon.

I bought the bike without plates from a dealer in KK. He provided all the paperwork for me. The woman at the counter in Udon bent over backwards to be difficult. I smiled, never raised my voice and resisted the temptation to throttle her. I think it would have been impossible had not brought a Thai speaking person with me.

1. She insisted my passport was out of date, even though it expires in 2029.
2. She then claimed the expiry date was not clear on the passport photocopy, I invited 3 of her colleagues to look at the photocopy and ask them what the expiry date was, they all confirmed it was easy to read.
3. She did not like the photocopy of my yellow book, as the images were slightly (ever so) crooked.
4. She sent me to photocopy place across the road 4 times as she progressively rejected proffered copies.
5. wanted 2 signed copies of license, yellow book, pink card, passport, visa, but then did not even look at visa copies.

Now I must wait 3 days before taking bike in for inspection and get plates issued.

I think one farang-hating official.

I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani

Why go through the hassle and stress just to have your name in the book.

Why not just put it in your wife’s name?

I've never had any trouble transfering ownership and have just done it a couple of weeks ago and now waiting for new plates, depending on the bike and what where and how you ride but if your contemplating taking the bike to another country, Laos, Cambodia etc the book must be in your name to get it out and back in, therefore worth putting in your name.
