Going to Vientiane for first time, l went online to Laos visa site, downloaded tourist visa form, prefilled it on an A4 paper to have it rejected at the border. The one provided at the Laos border is half the size of the A4 with all the details required being the same. Not a big issue, but submitted FYI in the event that you may be travelling to Vientiane for the first time.

The visa touts on the Thai side of the bridge before you stamp out will do all the proper paperwork for you on the spot.. for an additional fee some will actually escort you across the bridge and through Lao Immigration and hand you off to a taxi or van driver on the Lao side..
