Hello.

I've got a Chase Sapphire (US) CC burning a hole in my pocket w/ a 30,000 usd credit available.

I want to buy a compact for my wife, but getting mixed messages and unanswered questions and want those reward points, if possible.

A medium down payment and further mo/payments would look mighty good as rewards go...

1st car lot said, "ok," but...
then got turned down at their bank (near TungFon) today. No decent reason given...

Standard BS over the phone w/ other lots in the area.

Does anyone here have any experience buying a car (for their partner) in T-land in this manner?

I'm thinking,....w/ ALL you expats around - somebody has done this, no?

I thought about doing it at one time, but opted for purchasing with cash on all of my vehicles and getting a discount for doing so.

There may be a thread somewhere on the forum that addresses this. Have you done a search?

According to the information I have

17.74% to 24.74%

So if he spent the maximum amount he would get 30,000 points for a probable maximum value of $370
Assuming a balance on the card at the end of the year of $25,000 and the minimum interest rate he would have paid at least $4,375 interest on the credit card debt.

So buying large items using a credit card easily explains why very many people doing things like that are drowning in debt and interest payments.

The only really good way to use a credit card is to pay the full balance every month as I've been able to for the last 564 of the 565 months I've had credit cards.

You are assuming this guy is not going to pay it off in full monthly, which I think he is. He wants to accumulate the reward points.

If he does that then he would get his $370 value points assuming that any dealer is going to accept the card and not going to charge their credit card fee to him which would probably be something like 24,000 Baht (assuming 1.5% charge)
