Hi Aardvark
Yes, we will be doing a combination of both History and Geography which is often referred to as humanities. Humanities is a combination of different subjects taught in an integrated way through themes or topics rather than as separate subjects. One semester, the topic may be a specifically historical one, such as the study of Roman Britain or a geographical one, such as the study of Rivers . Humanities is brought to life through the use of pictures, maps, time lines, stories, music, drama, art and craft and the local environment.

The Historical themes aim to stimulate an interest in the past and an appreciation of human achievements. We will study people and events that 'made' history and examine supporting evidence. We will look at the everyday life of people in the past and try to relate it to our own situations.

In Geography the topics will provide opportunities for local and world studies, looking at aspects of the physical world and land use in different parts of the world. Concepts such as cause and effect, communications, interdependence and conservation will be introduced as well as the skills of making and using maps. Children will gain a growing knowledge of places - in the UK, in Europe and in more distant parts of the world. Children will also be encouraged to undertake a study of their own local area.

What needs to be taken into consideration is that all the above will be 'graded' in regards to ability and age. Initially it will be about developing study skills and developing enquiring minds.

If you require more detailed information feel free to PM me

Kindest regards

Andy

We are a licensed (MOE) English Language tutor school based on Sri Chum Cheun (rear of Satrirachinuthit girls’ school) that has been offering English language courses at an affordable rate for the last two years. The tutor school is currently open weekends and two evenings a week. However, we are just about to embark on an new ‘exciting’ alternative approach to education for children in Udon Thani. The school is for parents who want their children to follow an international curriculum at an affordable rate. We are calling this project ‘Home School Udon Thani’

The new Home School initiative will mean that the school will be open five days a week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am – 3.30pm. The target age range for the school is 4 to 11 years of age. The students will attend the school like they would a ‘normal’ school. The only difference being is that there will only be 12 students in the class and the school will follow The English National Curriculum.

The resources used in the school have been specifically designed for a home schooling environment. Therefore, our model will be using 'home school resources' in a 'study group' environment rather than a student studying in isolation. The 'study group' will be structured around a set of lessons which will be facilitated/taught by a teacher who will use many different methods in order to meet each students individual learning needs/styles.

I am always surprised at what ridiculous fees some of the English language schools charge in Udon Thani. The English School of Learning has always kept its fees at an affordable rate. We do not 'cut back' on quality for our teachers are all qualified to Master Degree level. Our school is high technology and more important gets results!

We only charge 6,000 baht for five month for our English Buffet Course (12 hours per week). and 6,000 baht for our five month Prathom course. Our Home School full time program delivering an internal curriculum is only 35,000 baht per semester
We concentrate on speaking, listening and Basic Grammar Skills.

Hi everyone

Just to let you know the English School of Learning has been featured on Ajarn .com the top website in Thailand for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). The feature is a 'hot seat' interview in regards to the school's new venture. Follow the link to read the article.

Hi all

I think it is very important that you always have a little background information on the person(s) you entrust to teach and take care of your children. Here is an article about the family who run and teach at the English School of Learning.

]Hi all

Just a quick up date for all you forum members. We only have six places left now on our Home School Program. This is a great opportunity to place your child in a program that follows the English National Curriculum at an affordable price.

The English School of Learning also has places on both its weekend Prathom courses and the English Buffet course.

All our courses are delivered by a qualified native English speaking teacher and supported by a Thai bilingual speaker.

Hi Socksy

Hope you are well. We have six parents showing a genuine interest at this stage. Once this number rises to ten I will organise an 'open evening' I will let you know personally by a PM friend. Once the election is over and all the banners have been taken down we will be putting 20 large banners up in and around the city. Hopefully, this will raise more awareness.

Kindest regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

Could you please describe your location using landmarks for a part-timer who is not too familiar with the street map of Udon. (Perhaps from Central Plaza) Thanks!

Hello Writemotive

Hope you are well.

Here goes for my attempt at giving you directions from Central Plaza.

Leave Central Plaza and head towards Prince Prajak roundabout. Approach the roundabout and go straight on passing Makkheang school (probably spelt wrong). Go straight ahead you will pass the Udon Thani prison on your left and the police station on your right. Carry on going straight and you will eventually pass Udon Pitt school on your left. Keep going straight ahead until you pass Satrirachinuthit all girls school. Pick up the left hand lane prior to going through the traffic lights. You will see a motorbike shop on your left take your next immediate left directly after the motorbike shop. Follow the road around onto Sri Chum Cheun road. After 100 metres and you will pass a massage shop on your left we are directly opposite. There are two big ESOL signs outside the school. If you are still having a problem finding us Pm me and we can arrange to meet at a venue of your choice.

Kind regards

Andy
