Looks like Governor Abbott, who apart from parroting the bad news already out there, has offered nothing of substance, has come out questioning why Texas law enforcement apparently sat on their hands for about an hour while parents and teachers worked on evacuating the other kids. The local police claim they were waiting for tactical backup. A SWAT team from San Antonio maybe?

Thus Cruz's narrative of increasing the hardening schools and giving teachers 'shoot to kill' training gains momentum. This despite the existing, beefed-up security procedures and shooter-specific training hastily introduced after the Santa Fe school carnage tragically proving to be a(nother) busted flush.
Yip, the cops (or are they Texas Rangers?) have come out of this looking like a bunch of pussy cats. Hard as nails when having the advantage of 6 to 1 on an unarmed victim but wont go the extra mile when children are being slaughtered by a maniac. Most police today carry automatic assault rifles in their vehicles and wear body armour so why the delay in going in. Lack of intestinal fortitude?
It appears that the local police and Texas DPS hung about while still getting whispered 911 calls from at least one of the dwindling survivors inside that classroom.

"McCraw [department of public safety director] recounted some of the 911 calls, including several from a female who, in a whisper, reported “multiple dead” in a classroom. The unnamed caller, from inside the classroom, said there were eight to nine students still alive at that stage.

At 12.36pm local time, a 911 call that lasted for 21 seconds was received, from a child in the classroom, who was told to stay on the line and stay quiet.

The child, McCraw recounted, said: “Please send the police now. ...

Victor Escalon, the south Texas regional director of the state’s department of public safety, said on Thursday armed officers arrived at Robb elementary in about four minutes, yet it was “approximately an hour later” that a tactical team of US border patrol arrived at the school, burst into the classroom and killed the gunman, while the other armed police waited outside.”

Can we assume that they were hearing gunshots in that classroom but still considered it a "barricaded subject" and not a hostage situation? Can we also assume that children didn't cry out?

Doubt it pep ..... in this day and age it would have required 14 forms signed in triplicate by the head of police and school govs before anyone was allowed onto the school premises

I can well imagine there will be investigations and reports from FBI, Local Police, Texas rangers, DEA, and who else knows SPCA could be one in the next few months. BUT in the end SFA will be done . One reason is that there will have been another person killed , another massacre in a school, shopping mall etc.
As was seen today the question was asked and will never be answered by Gun lobbyists, owners, Republicans, WHY is the US the only country with continual slaughters of their own people in the world. Ted Cruz was asked this today and he walked away

As expected, we now have a long list of red flags about that lunatic. Unfortunately it is too late to save those kids. Why do they discover all those red flags after the damage is done? The Barney Fife cops also dropped the ball. The border patrol finally stopped him.

Plenty of other countries have nutters, glalt.

Why is it that the USA is alone in having consistent gun massacres?

And what sort of country allows an 18 year old, whatever his mental state, to buy 2 semi-automatic weapons, plus thousands of rounds of ammunition?

Your excuses sound very much like the crap consistently put out by Cruz, Abbott and the NRA.The damage was done many years ago, and continues to be done to this day because of spineless, amoral politicians and supreme court judges.

Mass shootings don't only happen in the United States (Canada has had a few), but more do, and much more often than in other countries. What do you have to say, Mr. Cruz?

Well at the NRA conference the only way to stop these shootings is to AR< teachers and only have one door into a school, so sayeth The orange Moron and his bewhiskered side -kick.
Is it not great according to R Cruz safety only happens IF everyone has a gun .....amazingly people believe him.

were being a little harsh on this small-town police
force but egads, as news continues to trickle in .

the kid didn't even have a drivers license. nor could he drive, as he crashed grandma's truck. and police engaged him before he entered school :freak:

build prisons to keep the kids in , everybody should carry a gun and escort their children to school. national guard should be placed all around schools too in humvees with 50 cal machine guns mounted, electric fences. like they did in iraq build green zones.

i did . and it was a very relevant point . backed up
with data from brit's own office of statistics. try
and take away guns, people just use knives instead

now, the selling of military hardware to public is a
separate issue. no-one denies that's screwd up =;

so you were the one asking about uk knife crime, then you answer you own question stating a question had been asked by yourself  . i used to carry a pruning knife with me everywhere, reality is if i had been stopped carrying it i could have been arrested , if i wasn't arrested it still would have been logged as a knife incident . even 3 guys running around central london trying to kill as many as possible only managed to kill a few , some of them weren't even killed with knives, they got run over with a van. so anyway lets put it this way, most people carrying knives are never prosecuted, they have the knife confiscated but it still gets reported. can you imagine in america that every time someone stopped carrying a gun even legally a report was made they had a gun, gun 'incidents' would be in the millions in the usa

As a police Offier, knife crime was always the problem as there so many reasons to carry a sharp bladed incident. The outlawed the following CONCEALED knives, Flick Knifes, Knifes with a blade longer than 4/5 inches ( if my memory serves me correctly ) , but then the Gnbags turned to box cutters, Stanly Knifes and the like even to domestic knives ground down to raxor thin blades.
it has always been and always will be a problem. Various Stop and Search laws were enacted, but all that di was to alienate people and brought in Racial stereotyping problem .Still a problem and always will be
But there IS different pysche about Knife crime you actually have to be up and close to the victim to do any real harm . Whereas GUNS on the other hand you can stand over 100 metres away and KILL with impunity , never seeing the p[erson properly or even hearing the pain you have inflicted.

The UK's recent surge in knife crime has been driven by the the 'county lines' drug scourge. Your suggestion that knives are being used in lieu of guns that were broadly proscribed in the UK about 26 years ago is laughable.

Keeping in mind that all civil societies have their quotas of people struggling with mental health, Covid and the pressures of life and work, what's driving the US's surge in shopping mall, night club and school massacres? Do you honestly think that if the guns weren't available, they would be running into schools and malls with knives and swords?
