2023 Tourists

Post by Doodoo » September 14, 2023, 8:06 am

Nearly 18.5 million foreign tourists have visited Thailand so far this year

Between January 1 and September 3, 2023, the top 5 countries sending holidaymakers to Thailand are as follows:
Malaysia: 2,920,803
China: 2,230,707
South Korea: 1,072,928
India: 1,033,582
Russia: 930,696

Thats a projected number of 27.75 million tourists for this year. That is 70% of the amount pre-covid.

One of the things that Expats can do to help is to support the local businesses.

Here are some up-to-date figures to help support your statement.

The Bangkok Post is quoting the same figures that I posted so I am not seeing an update. I was not referring to 2024 numbers as it is almost 1 1/2 years away
"The country this year is expected to receive 28 million foreign visitors" in 2013 same as the numbers I wrote about

thanks for the input though

You're welcome. By the way, 2024 is about three and a half months away, not a year and a half.

Once again you deflect from the title of this thread, as you are famous for. The title is "2023 Tourists" not 2024 tourists
May I remind you that these Tourists they talk about in 2024 will not ALL appear on January 2024 in one day. The total will not be seen until December 31 2024 , almost 1 1/2 years from now and not 4 months as you have indicated

Only 2023 tourists? Are they sure? Seems a bit low to me.

You should contact them as soon as possible and air your concerns and possible suggestions to rectify

Good luck

Do you think they'll notice if I do?

Now, too many tourists

https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/ge ... vertourism
Seems strange the government are pushing in every direction to assist more visitors while another group is trying to do the direct opposite.

Quite a few places now saying the same about over tourism and how it effects residents directly ...

The Canary islands seeing protests over too many tourists and the city of Amsterdam also making new hotel laws to curb over tourism.

Charging extra to decrease the number of tourists 300THB per tourist
or
$8.10 USD
6.56 Pounds
7.6 Euros

Now that will for sure stifle tourists from coming to Thailand

On the other side, 40,000,000 tourists

40,000,000 x $8.10 = $324,000,000
40,000,000 x 6.56 = 262,400,000 pounds

According to the link provided by Doodoo, the 300 baht tourist tax is just a suggestion at the moment, not even a half-truth. Let's see what the future holds.

That would be assumed in the title of the Bangkok Post article

Confusion reigns I thought I read that he country was having difficulty with too many tourists

Thailand extends visa exemption for Russian tourists until 31 July 2024
The Thai cabinet has approved a temporary visa exemption for visitors from Russia not exceeding 60 days, effective from 1 May 2024 to 31 July 2024. The current visa-exemption scheme for Russia has been in effect since 1 November 2023 and will be valid until 30 April 2024. The visa-free policy for Russian tourists was extended because they are increasingly traveling to Thailand.
According to the statistics, over 1.61 million Russian tourists visited Thailand in 2023, which is considered the fifth-highest number of tourists, generating revenue for the country of more than 8.4 billion baht.

It's shocking. Everyone is pleading poverty but the world is still flooded with muppet tourists.
