Expat population in Udon area

Post by dazedandconfused » June 14, 2006, 4:39 pm

I've been told there are around 3000 expats living in the Udon area and I'm curious, 1) is it true 2) where does everybody hang out? 3) where are the expats from?

Do you mean 3000 living in Udon Thani province, or Udon Thani City.

It would be in the province, 3000 or 2500 on their death bed, the rest waiting out thier days, except for the gang at Udon Map forum

It is the province I've justed confirmed it with the Uncle in Law (works for immigration), I didn't realise Udon Thani was a province as well, that just goes to show how new I am.

Is that only retirement visas or does it include all visas? Tourist visas would be pretty hard to keep track of.

Some farang have mentioned numbers much higher.

I've been curious as to the total population of Thais and foreigners in Udon Thani City. This would be everyone within the ring road and perhaps those within 5 kilometers outside of ring road. My guess is 200,000.

Anyone know?

From the 2000 census the total population of Udon Thani Province was 1.5million.
The population of Udon Thani municipal area was 415,000. Where the boundary of the municipal area is, who knows.

There was another census done just a few months ago, but it is not likely that that data will start appearing for a few more years.

There most be quite a few expats living in Udon (city) I've only lived here for 3 weeks, but I've been out and about shopping (see shopping posts), I've spotted many other expats, the older guys tend to give a friendly nod and I like wise, but the majority don't even smile or acknowledge you exist, I have worked in many different countries, the only other country I've experienced this level of rude behaviour was when I lived in Sweden, Stockholm. Maybe the expats I see are Swedes?

I agree wholeheartedly about the expats not being friendly here in Udon. I've been here only a few months and noticed it.

So come on you miserable old b@#$%^*s out there, start smiling at each other and being more friendly.

George

ps
For those friendly old b@#$%^*s out there, keep smiling, you're doing a good job :-)

Iam certainly one of the few that do acknowledge others I would like to go back 4. 5 our 6 years the people around then that are still in and around udon today
Where on the hole mostly friendly
There seems to be too many inflated ego.s around today misfits from every country
I have never been a hanger on I think keeping ones self to ones self seems to have worked fine for me
There is a lot of backbiting going on at the moment which is fun to watch but I do feel sorry for some of the better guys caught up in it
In the corner back to the wall

I've not been out to any of the bars yet, I've been stuck at home setting the business side up and having a little un with no baby sitter available is limiting for going out, but hopefully this will be sorted out soon.

I went to Big C yesterday, it's strange the TW or GF of the expats usually come over to talk to TW and ask about the little un and where I'm from, but the guys just disappear, maybe I look like I have a mental condition when I smile and nod. :?
