The Crocodile gained his newfound fame by publishing his phone number on this forum and inviting a certain poster to call and pay him a visit prior to a physical confrontation. In addition, said crocodile threatened to pursue a poster into another country (Laos), and to physically attack him. So yes, you are right, we do know of this new establishment, but not for the right reasons.harmonyudon wrote:rct wrote: I find one of the best recognition is the choosen Forum name by a

Here we go again LMY.........I think nobody who has a business let others threaten them. NOBODY.
LMY have a nice day....bye
ps
I spoke to a member and he has an idea for Udon Fora.
Maximum post per day by members, sponsors, mods etc.....between 5-10.
So no waste of chit chatting and threads are maybe then more well tought.

Laan Yaa Mo, stats on quotes.....
You inadvertently attributed Harmony's comments to me, by including my initials on something Harmony wrote. Please look again at your post 06h41 and be more careful next time, as this seems to be on a sensitive topic (noting Ian can take care of himself).

Probably, most people on this forum can look after themselves; however, they do not boost about it or threaten others in the same way as the crocodile goes about his business.
Yes, I am not sure how the misquote happened. I remember trying to delete your comments, but your user name came out in the wash.

I find statistics an excellent marketing tool targeted at ignorant people, as they can be presented and manipulated to the benefit of those offering them. Much like polls, ask a question a certain way and you are bound to get the answer you want.
For the educated consumer, unbiased word of mouth and personal experience of trusted sources hold more weight than stats and commercialism. Especially when sponsors seem to be doing most of the promoting and non sponsors are not allowed to be mentioned. So stats and vendor recognition is only for those that are led by others.
Examples given of differences of forum, is just on the surface, dig deeper and the numbers would probably say quite bit more. Same with recognition of shops for certain offerings. As mention, Mexican, there are 3 serving, but only one sponsor. PIes, mushy peas, there are simply to many, but only a couple in the forum limelight. Indian curry, one promoted, though again, offered elsewhere. So not the best, as I think I know which ones poster would be thinking of, but they would be the opposite of the ones I would visit. Which of course can't be talked about, so those that are led by others, have restricted options.
Which is fine and expected, just not the way intelligent people think, before spending their baht. Decent source of information, but if you only get your daily news from say Fox news, then you are truly screwed in broadening your horizons.

WuDaddy,
The recognition which I have seen in this forum only. Other PR/marketing factors I can not see.
But you recognize the examples as 1 of the 16335 members with total 246439 posts

Perfect examples of yours WUDaddy .... I agreed. Everyone has his own taste.
Dont know in TH but in NL only to gain recognition (brand name) beer companies have
a huge budget
For small 'insignificant' businesses in Udon this forum is a good marketing tool, not only by sponsors but by members also. For example the very good Buffet of Keenaree on Saturdays.

Agree, if it was a tourist destination, but those that live here should know by now there are many options, I would hope anyway, or have met a few people that recommend things to each other.
The mid to upper end tourist will stay at those available to book online, if coming here at all, :-0, extremely limited, and the low end tourist will go with price and location, bus station, train station area, Top Mansion or RuySuk if doing a bit of research. As only a few get mentioned on most forums.

there is a quote i quite like , my belief does not require you to believe , from one of the Matrix movies !
from my perspective , as a current advertiser ( and previous reader prior to becoming a sponsor ) Udon Map is a highly cost effective advertising platform.
although posts by members appear to be declining , the view count and thus perspective customers remains high.
there are Limited Options for cost effective advertising in Udon at the moment .
when i owned my printing company in Pattaya , i advertised on Huge Roadside Billboards , Local TV Stations , Newspapers and Magazines .. plus i advertised on another Business i owned called Cube Advertising .. a nicely Bright Orange Fleets of Trucks with mobile Billboards on the flatbeds .. ( then i got divorced and lost the lot )
i advertised Heavily , NOT because i expected people to rush out and want to use the services of my company , but to create awareness that i existed for future needs , if future needs arose , and to create curiosity enough to get the customer through the door . Brand Awareness .
my thinking was if i could get the customer through the door to see what we offered , the chances are we could get repeat business from it
my Bookhouse Thread , here on Udonmap , has a huge amount of views although not so many actual posts , which shows me people are interested in whats happening regards to the business.
talking statistics and facts , for example , the human eye recognizes one colour before all others , making it the colour of choice when trying to make an advertisement stand out from the rest ,
the human brain can only process so many words on a moving advert , making it pointless to cram a huge amount of information on a moving vehicle UNLESS , your target audience is the people who see the ad when the vehicle is stationary
i got an email once from a customer who said he would no longer frequent my business because another , good , regular customer was posting too many positive comments , and it was off putting . i dealt with that situation by asking the customer who was prolifically posting positive comments about my business to please reduce the frequency of his posts .
consequently , both customers dont come in much anymore - ( i learned something from that ! )
i have become very aware because of the direction the forum seems to be taking at the moment , ( lots of flaming , trolling and general bad feeling toward , especially new members ) of what i promote , and how i do it .
it is in my opinion , very important to maintain a high degree of professionalism and balanced viewpoint , when posting here on the boards because what i type here has a direct impact on my business . i also prefer to post in a reasoned , logical way so my posts dont come back to bite me in the future !!
business will not just fall at your feet , you must constantly work at it and keep trying to be innovative
if i use the forum to promote the fact that i have some freshly prepared food , that will be thrown away if it isnt sold , i am not ashamed to do so , as i am paying for the privilege
as i keep my self promotional posts STRICTLY , only to my sponsors thread , people who are not interested in what i write , have the choice not to click on it , knowing it contains information they are not interested in.
i very rarely look through actual forums to read posts , i look on the front page for active topics and read what interests me.
from a sponsors point of view , i like the fact that at present , commercial and non commercial posts go to the top of the front page of the forum . because new post counts are quite low , anything i post remains in public view for quite a while , untill it slips down the page ..
the fundamental flaw in this system though , from a commercial point of view , is that a competitor has the ability to post on various other threads and quicken the rate at which my promotional writings move down from the front page
anyway , enough ramblings from me , i just wanted to share a perspective from a sponsor , who does benefit from his investment as a sponsor

Librarian. I totally agree with your post. Now if only we could get others to adopt such a sensible outlook, we might get the absentee posters back on line again .In the mean time , I'm afraid, thanks mainly due to one person, the content has gone from boring to banal in just two days . :-"

Jeremy's thoughts and recommendation, (as supported by LannaJeff, Monkeyman, Pienmash and Trubrit) are indeed a point that Mods have been and are currently discussing with the Forum Management, and a strategy is currently being forumulated (formulated). Please be patient for a little longer. Thank you for your thoughts and input.

Just a postscript to this topic. I understand another new forum is going to start up without moderators or sponsors, where everyone can sing in harmony .Look for the email . Perhaps now we on Um can get back to a semblance of normality.
