Poker in Udon (online)

Post by harmonyudon » February 8, 2012, 7:06 pm

One day a young man (30-40yrs) sat on terrace of a bar in Udon with
his laptop and I saw him playing online poker.

After 2hours I was a bit curious and asked him if he won?
He did not want to answer.

I saw him afterwords reguarely and asked again. After knowing each other
he began to talk.

He classified himself in the world top 10.000 online poker players. He was graduated
in mathematics and earns now his income playing thousands of online poker games
per month against amateurs, after 3-5 years of intensive training in Europe.

According to him more than 800.000 people play online poker. He does not have any
feelings with the cards and only calculates his chances as a real pro. He claims that he wins average
per game 1-4 us dollars. He now travells all over the world but did live about 1 year
in Udon.

****.........I am now perhaps too old to learn. Playing against amateurs and make a
reasonable income.............with professional discipline 3-4 hours a day and earns
perhaps more than for example a manager of a bank in the UK (nett).....wow..... \:D/

I wonder how many online poker regular players are living in Udon???

Do you :-$ play online for money??

If you want to do the same thing, work through any 1st year Probability textbook.

As long as he isn't getting supported in any way by the government, who cares what he does.

To answer your question, no--not in a million years. [-(

@greatsnake,

Is poker gambling?
I dont think so.

So, if its true that 800.000 people play each day online poker for money and you are in the top 20.000
you have a great chance to win.
As long as he isn't getting supported in any way by the government, who cares what he does.
He is not retired and makes a living not depending on a place/country/area ......and/or business. \:D/ :D

he only needs a good internet connection.

800k playing every day might be a low estimate.

I enjoy playing on-line, but I suck at it..............does kill time at a reasonable expense!!! Well maybe not that reasonable.

It's easy to set-up a Poker site account, though difficult to deposit funds into that account from Thailand (at least for a US Citizen). If you're from Europe they'll easily accept an EU bank/credit card.

If you're thinking about it, a few sight allow you to sign-up without depositing any funds and playing (play money) or freerolls for a few dollars (5-10.00). Though the players/play in freerolls-play money games differ greatly from real money play.

A good internet connection is a must, if you're playing seriously!!!

I don't believe him.To play poker online is a setup to be scammed.A team can work a table communicating with each other about their hands, you would have no knowledge! You might get lucky on the flop, once in a while, but the team will eat you up eventually! Most gamblers are addicts and they all go tits up!

A Lottery winner will win again and again and again??...dont think so!

I believe that real professional top-players will win against amateurs in the long term.
So as a pro you can benefit from the amateurs. That man in the initial post do not play against
other pro's ,he takes money from amateurs. :-" :|

As with normal poker, internet poker is as much about nerve as it is about skill, which appeals to the City workers more used to testing their nerve on the trading floor.

"Traders understand how to limit their losses," says Darren Batsford, an equity trader. If you are losing you have to stop and walk away and start another day. You have to be very disciplined."

"The individual skill of the player determines the outcome, unlike betting on the horses or betting on the lottery," said John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance. "It's not an individual competing against the house, and that's an important distinction."

Is there anyone interested in an occasional (weekly / bi-weekly/ monthly) game of Texas Hold 'Em? I work a 28 and 28 day schedule and enjoy a little beer drinking and card playing occasionally.
Of course it would be strictly for fun ;) ;) since gambling is illegal.

Well the worlds best texas holdem players all play online as well as live tournaments and games.
They even make most of theyr money playing online.
Don't know if you guys seen them play but join ex PokerStars and you can watch theyr table playing at $2000-$1000 blind poker....

A person that calls him self a pro wouldnt play at such low levels described in the thread. $50 blind up and you can start talking about pros.
Ofcourse there is tournament pros too, playing in tournamanets with a buy in of atleast a couple of $hundreds...

That person's strategy of making a living was/is to reach the 10000-20000 top level.
After he/you reach that you can make a living from the remaining daily 780.000 players,
ofcourse with discipline.

Lets say 400000 are gamblers and thus not real skilled poker players the odds are on your side.

He is a pro cause he makes a living with online poker, nothing to do with starting bets.
From so many games he played over the years he legally 'ripped off' money from amateurs
1-4 USD average per game :-" :-" :D   =D> :-"

Well how long is the average "game" for him then?
Normaly you talk about hands. And you play quite a few in one hour.
Does he play sit and goes? Theyr usally finnished in 30-60 minutes.

A game, or a sitting for a normal pokerplayer can be quite a few hours, and averaging 3-4 dollars there isnt a good result...
More important is how much you can score of per month. I have a few friends doing well over $10.000 a month playing online.

I don't know.Have you seen their books or tax returns?I spend 20 years in the gambling business(not online),related to poker,Owned 3 different clubs, met 3 people in all those years that actually made money legit.I'm talking about thousands and thousands of different people.Cheats make money until they get caught, many people win on a lottery bet, don't know any that are ahead of the game.I have even heard of major lottery winners going broke, but I imagine their must be a few that didn't.The small house percentage eats away all the time for regular players.I have seen 100's of team cheating schemes, can't imagine that they wouldn't turn to the internet, where there is no one monitoring it.

Most gamblers become or are addicts, addicts will go broke, when they go broke, they scheme to make money.Imagine 1 or more people with different names and accounts, playing all the hands but yours. They wouldn't know your cards exactly, but they know all the cards dealt and increase the odds substantially about which cards are left and what might turn up,absolutely have many cases where they know they have a lock against your hand, they raise you multiple times as the odds are heavily in their favor!

@nkstan,

First I was suspicious also. Then he told me that the biggest online poker site can commercial wise speaking
be compared to a mutinational, recent estimation a 6 billion industry only in the USA.

So, they can afford brilliant It-specialist and other specialists to watch over security matters and/or detect
cheaters, like in a normal casino.

Like bridge and backgammon I beleive a top poker player remains on top till a certain period of time.
Its more about skills and if you play daily online you perhaps can detect amateurs and take their money
if you are on top. :D

wikipedia wrote: Online poker is the game of poker played over the Internet. It has been partly responsible for a dramatic
increase in the number of poker players worldwide. Christiansen Capital Advisors stated online poker revenues
grew from $82.7 million in 2001 to $2.4 billion in 2005,[1] while a survey carried out by DrKW and Global
Betting and Gaming Consultants asserted online poker revenues in 2004 were at $1.4 billion

Many online poker sites are certified by bodies such as the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and major
auditing firms like PricewaterhouseCoopers to review the fairness of the random number
generator,[22] shuffle, and payouts for some sites.

Insider cheatingInsider cheating can occur when a person with trusted access to the system
(e.g. an employee of the poker room) uses his position to play poker himself with an unfair
advantage. This could be done without the knowledge of the site managers.

Perhaps the first known major case came to light in October 2007, when Absolute Poker
acknowledged that its integrity had been breached by an employee, who had been able to play at
high stakes while viewing his opponents' hidden "hole" cards.[23] The cheating was first
brought to light by the efforts of players, whose saved histories of play showed the employee
was playing as only someone who could see their opponents' cards could.[24]

In 2008, UltimateBet became embroiled in a similar scandal, with former employees accused of
using a software backdoor to see opponents' cards. UltimateBet confirmed the allegations
on May 29.[25] The Kahnawake Gaming Commission announced sanctions against UltimateBet as
a result.

CollusionMore mundane cheating involves collusion between players, or the use of multiple
accounts by a single player. Collusion is not limited to online play but can occur in any poker
game with three or more players. Most poker rooms claim to actively scan for such activity.
For example, in 2007, PokerStars disqualified TheV0id, the winner of the main event of the
World Championship of Online Poker for breaching their terms of service

Just spoke with this man again. He said it's getting harder to get regular income with poker online, even
when you are a real pro. Many russians and other europeans discover this online game also. He's still playing
though. Btw,he is also a very good chess player.

Now who do you think are running these webites? Surely the aren't doing it for the money. Easy to play just give them your credit card number. Plenty of internet shops around udon where you can pay and play, no need for a credit card.
