It rather all depends on the Immigration Department/Officer that you go to.
They need to sign a form for the Licensing Department to say that you are OK to have the bike in your name.
Some will on a Tourist Visa, some won't. Maybe they might change their mind if it was made worth their while, but I am unsure on that.
Anything 'better' than a tourist visa should not be an issue. A 'Visa Exception' stamp rather than a Tourist Visa would probably make it very difficult indeed.

It shouldn't be a problem if you are buying from a recognised dealer. Let them do it. just give a copy of your passport to them . No can do, okay , no sale. I am sure they will. :-"stokiebaz wrote:can a farang tourist buy a motorbike if paying cash in full or does it have to be in a thai name
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

They will need a letter from immigration confirming your address, if not, no chance.

Unless something has changed you need an annual visa. You can skip immigration if you have a yellow house book.
Speaking of past experience in Udon. Haven't done it in several years so things could have changed I don't know.

Both of my bikes were registered in my name in Bangkok. I had only a tourist visa and my yellow house book.

I bet you didn't have a tourist visa when you got your yellow book?

Yes I did, All I have ever had is a tourist visa. I have registered 2 big bikes, 1 750 Honda and a 2009 Harley Road individual which I still have. I leased my land in Hua Hin and had my house built. House sold now and spending more time in Nong Khai area. I also opened a bank account at the Ayudyha bank in Hua Hin with my tourist visa.mykthemin wrote:I bet you didn't have a tourist visa when you got your yellow book?

I know of two others who obtained a yellow book while on a tourist visa, one married and one single and residing at AEK apt's. No tea money paid, went through same process I did.mykthemin wrote:How can you have a yellow book with a tourist visa? sounds very fishy to me and your land I don't think so!

The key there is the Yellow house book, anyone can get one all the that has to happen is the owner has to confirm you live there.
Once you have that you bypass immigration. Immigration would not give those on tourist visas in the past I don't know if there have been any changes. I haven''t had a tourist visa for a very long time.

And normally a letter from immigration saying the same, and they only usually issue those to people with long term visa's
