I've had dollars refused before because of small tears. Just change some more baht into dollars at the Bureau de Change next to immigration - you get a similar rate to a Thai bank. Might cost you 10 baht more ..... it's just the time wasted, but don't need to queue again. Mad to buy Kip!

That Bereau de change ( Next to Laos Immigration ) Would NOT Change my Thai Baht into US$,She actually said to me " I Can only give you Laos Kip " So thats the reason......

The FX booths at Udon airport also only exchange into Baht .

So not a conspiracy. Just their operations.

Strange, as i got dollars at the Laos immigration bureau last year. Trying to get dollars in Udon is a pain, typically 3 banks before i find suitable amount. Anyway, no longer an issue for me as now on extensions.

True. Went to the yellow bank (Ayudhya?) in Big-C where I used to buy my dollars for the Lao visa. This time they told me that the minimum transaction was at least 150 dollars.

I'm not a frequent traveler to Laos but often in Udon. Is there anywhere in Udon you can go and get the normal 30 day Laos visa stamp before you actually make the trip?. I often used to see the Laos bound bus in Udon bus Station it would have saved me a lot of time than going to NK then tuk tuk to bridge etc.

But save yourself all the hassle, expense and time and just take the mini van from Udon. They'll drop you off at the bridge (Thai immigration).
