Well what a trooper, still going strong.
Well done. It is not only Brits who remember her, but plenty of other when it was a real commonwealth.
My mum and dad would sing a few of those songs in Australia during my young days.
If I remember correctly I think she had something to do with cerebral palsy kids.
I was involved with raising funds for disabled kids and remember Dame Vera's name being mentioned.

Great singer. One of my favourites.

Thank you Arjay, didn't realise she was still with us, brought tears to my eye's, so many memories of that time listening to her singing on the accumulator powered radio in the underground shelter whilst the bombs rained down around us , wondering where our kin were and if we would ever see them again .The amazing thing is that Hitler never achieved his ambition of dividing and subduing us, in fact it brought everyone, young or old , rich or poor, together in a way that was indescribable and has never been seen since .If we only had a fraction of that spirit now we wouldn't be in the mess we are.It was a time when men were men, women were women and singers could really sing .Despite the six years of war time hardship I still think I was privileged to live in Britain at it's best.Thanks for the memories.
