Energy Drinks
You may love the pep you can get from a can of our favorite energy drink, but these beverages combine sugar and stimulants into a cocktail that proves dangerous over time. The Mayo Clinic already warns that young adults should stay away from these drinks, as they raise the risk of heart disease and cause blood pressure spikes.

The caffeine content found in each can can't do anyone any favors, and has the potential to stress out our nervous system. Factor in the high sugar content wrapped up in each serving, and you end up with a beverage you should work towards limiting in your weekly eating plan.

2

Diet Soda
If you have to drink a soda, you should opt for a diet soda, right? While experts have found that this type of soda doesn't cause cancer or harm anyone through artificial sweeteners, diet sodas also can't help you if you want to stick to a healthy diet.

Experts have found that like their sugary counterparts, diet sodas also have the potential to cause obesity and may present a variety of unstudied health issues, making them a tricky drink to navigate if you have one too many. When in doubt, switch this drink out for a glass of water or tea for a refreshing change of pace when a craving strikes.

3

Red Wine
We have heard that red wine can offer up some amazing health benefits, but switching to this alcoholic beverage to gain these benefits could prove detrimental in the long run. According to the Mayo Clinic, researchers found a correlation between moderate red wine consumption and improved heart health. Before we reach for our glasses, you should know that you can glean the same health benefits by eating red grapes without suffering any of the health effects of indulging in alcohol, like developing heart issues or weight gain.

While initial studies seem promising, red wine currently has the same general net positives and negatives as drinking beer or spirits and you can get the same health benefits with no risk by enjoying the nutritional ingredient, resveratrol, in the form of grapes. You don't have to ditch the red wine if you love a glass or two every now again, but don't assume it keeps you healthy either.

Overwhelmingly Positive Effects of Giving Up Alcohol for a Month

You'll eat much less.
Why does alcohol cause weight gain? The bulk of it can be attributed to excess empty calories, but there are other factors at play, as well. Research shows that drinking alcohol can also increase your appetite for high-calorie foods, both immediately and the next day. According to a study published in the journal Appetite, people who drank only half a shot of alcohol (20 grams worth) ate 11 percent more than those who abstained. The drinkers also experienced more cravings for high-fat (high-calorie) foods.

You may even overindulge a day after drinking. According to a 2013 study published in the journal Nutrition & Diabetes, drinking alcohol results in shorter, less quality sleep, which caused study subjects to shift from eating carbohydrates to eating fats. And each 30-minute deficit of sleep caused the subjects to eat 83 additional calories per day, on average!

You'll sleep better.
Though booze can make you fall asleep initially, it disrupts shut-eye. That conclusion was reached by a review of 20 studies on the topic. Another recent study in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research found that drinking before bed increases alpha wave patterns in the brain. If you want restorative sleep, those waves don't help. Once you give up alcohol, however, you'll get better sleep and start feeling more refreshed and sharp.

The Great Stink was an event in Central London in July and August 1858 during which the hot weather exacerbated the smell of untreated human waste and industrial effluent that was present on the banks of the River Thames. The problem had been mounting for some years, with an ageing and inadequate sewer system that emptied directly into the Thames. The miasma from the effluent was thought to transmit contagious diseases, and three outbreaks of cholera before the Great Stink were blamed on the ongoing problems with the river.

The smell, and fears of its possible effects, prompted action from the national and local administrators who had been considering possible solutions for the problem. The authorities accepted a proposal from the civil engineer Joseph Bazalgette to move the effluent eastwards along a series of interconnecting sewers that sloped towards outfalls beyond the metropolitan area. Work on high-, mid- and low-level systems for the new Northern and Southern Outfall Sewers started at the beginning of 1859 and lasted until 1875. To aid the drainage, pumping stations were placed to lift the sewage from lower levels into higher pipes. Two of the more ornate stations, Abbey Mills in Stratford and Crossness on the Erith Marshes, with architectural designs from the consultant engineer, Charles Driver, are listed for protection by English Heritage. Bazalgette's plan introduced the three embankments to London in which the sewers ran—the Victoria, Chelsea and Albert Embankments.

Bazalgette's work ensured that sewage was no longer dumped onto the shores of the Thames and brought an end to the cholera outbreaks; his actions are thought to have saved more lives than the efforts of any other Victorian official. His sewer system operates into the 21st century, servicing a city that has grown to a population of over eight million. The historian Peter Ackroyd argues that Bazalgette should be considered a hero of London.

Titanic's Sister

SS Nomadic is a former tender of the White Star Line, launched on 25 April 1911 in Belfast now on display in Belfast's Titanic Quarter. She was built to transfer passengers and mail to and from RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic. She is the only surviving vessel designed by Thomas Andrews who also designed those two ocean liners, and the only White Star Line vessel in existence today.
The ship is 230 feet (70 m) long overall and 37 feet (11 m) wide, with a gross registered tonnage of 1,273 tons.[1][4] Propulsion was provided by two single-ended coal-fired boilers and two compound steam engines, each driving two triple-bladed propellers of 7 feet (2.1 m) in diameter, which gave a service speed of 12 knots (14 mph; 22 km/h).[1]

Nomadic is of steel construction, with steel frames, beams, bulkheads and riveted hull plating. She had four working decks with various hold spaces beneath. She could carry up to 1,000 passengers when fully loaded.[1][5]

Passenger accommodation consisted of lower- and upper-deck passenger lounges and open deck areas on the bridge and flying bridge decks. The vessel was divided into first- and second-class passenger areas, with first-class passengers enjoying the fore areas of the ship. A small area in the aft end of the lower deck was assigned for overspill of third-class passengers from SS Traffic.[1]

Internally, Nomadic was fitted out to a similar standard as the liners Olympic and Titanic, which she was built to serve. As such, she had more luxuries than most tenders of her day, with cushioned benches, tables, porcelain water fountains, sex-specific bathrooms and a buffet bar. She contained ornate decorative joinery and plasterwork, particularly in the first-class lounges of the ship.

Ways Narcissists Will Try To Manipulate You
A

Triangulation
Narcissists believe that they are always correct, and to prove this, they will bring in a third person whom they have already convinced to support them. This is clearly unfair because if you had known that there was an evidentiary hearing, you would have brought witnesses of your own. Narcissists often get away with their wrong opinions through the smokescreen of having plenty of people on their side.

Aggression
Researchers studying narcissistic personality traits as they relate to aggressive behavior say that narcissists show strong associations with overt aggression, verbal aggression, and the inability to control their behavior or emotions. Do not get into an unsafe situation with a narcissist. Make sure that you protect yourself from falling victim to the abusive tendencies of a narcissist. Again, you deserve better.

Shaming
Belittling others and making them feel less valuable is one way a narcissist will try to manipulate you. If they can make you feel ashamed for your appearance, lack of education, or social class, then they feel better by comparison.
Playing victim
The attitude of “I can’t win with you” is one of the narcissist’s tactics. By playing victim, the narcissist is forcing you to console them and help them justify their inflated ego. Don’t back down from your stance, otherwise, you are implicitly allowing the narcissist to get everything his (or her) way.
Or them blocking you on social media

PLACES ONE CANNOT ENTER
Gruinard Island, Inner Hebrides, Scotland
This might look like a stunning spot but you probably wouldn't want to visit. Gruinard Island was used by the British armed forces to test anthrax as a potential weapon in the 1940s. While the island has since been decontaminated, for many years it was under government control. It was repurchased in the 1990s by the original owners, but currently isn't populated.
In 1942, during the Second World War, a biological warfare test was carried out on Gruinard by British military scientists from the Biology Department of Porton Down.[9] The British government was investigating the feasibility of a bioweapons attack using anthrax.[10] It was recognised that tests would cause long-lasting contamination of the immediate area by anthrax spores, so a remote and uninhabited island was required. Gruinard was surveyed, deemed suitable, and requisitioned from its owners by the British Government.[11] Porton Down meteorologist Sir Oliver Graham Sutton was put in charge of a fifty-man team to conduct the trial, with David Henderson in charge of the germ bomb. Biology Department head Paul Fildes made frequent visits.[12]

The anthrax strain chosen was a highly virulent type called "Vollum 14578", named after R. L. Vollum, Professor of Bacteriology at the University of Oxford, who supplied it.[13] Eighty sheep were taken to the island and bombs filled with anthrax spores were exploded close to where selected groups were tethered. The sheep became infected with anthrax and began to die within days of exposure.[9]

Some of the experiments were recorded on 16 mm colour movie film, which was declassified in 1997. One sequence shows the detonation of an anthrax bomb fixed at the end of a tall pole supported with guy ropes. After the bomb explodes, a brownish aerosol cloud drifts away towards the target animals. A later sequence shows anthrax-infected sheep carcasses being burned in incinerators at the end of the experiment.[14]

After the tests were completed, scientists concluded that a large release of anthrax spores would thoroughly pollute German cities, rendering them uninhabitable for decades afterwards.[9] Those conclusions were supported by the inability to decontaminate the island after the experiment—the spores were sufficiently durable to resist any efforts at decontamination.

In 1945, when the island's owner sought its return, the Ministry of Supply recognised that the island was contaminated, and so could not be de-requisitioned until it was deemed safe. In 1946, the government agreed to acquire the island and to take responsibility for it. The owner or her heirs would be able to repurchase the island for £500 when it was declared "fit for habitation by man and beast".

For many years, it was judged too hazardous and expensive to decontaminate the island sufficiently to allow public access, and Gruinard Island was quarantined indefinitely. Visits to the island were prohibited, except for periodic checks by Porton Down personnel to determine the level of contamination.[15]

The Ritchie Boys[1] was a US special German-Austrian unit of Military Intelligence Service officers and enlisted men of World War II who were trained at Camp Ritchie in Washington County, Maryland. Many of them were German-speaking immigrants to the United States, often Jews who fled Nazi persecution.[2][3] They were used primarily for interrogation of prisoners on the front lines and counter-intelligence in Europe because of their knowledge of the German language and culture. They were also involved in the Nuremberg trials as prosecutors and translators

A) Left-handed People Show Us How to Use the Whole Brain
Left-handers can use both sides of their brains quickly and efficiently. Studies show they have a faster connection between the hemispheres in their brain, leading to quicker information processing. The transfer time between each hemisphere was assessed to find that left-handed participants processed information quicker.

This advantage helps them in situations that require multi-tasking, hand-eye coordination, or quick thinking. It’s also why they often excel in things like video games.

Left-handed People Explain How to Stand in Line for Less Time
You might wonder how being left-handed shortens someone’s time in line, but it makes sense once you know. Right-handed people tend to choose the queue on the right side if they have more than one to choose from. On the other hand, lefties often opt for the line on the left.

With lefties being the minority here, fewer people choose the line on the left. They end up in the shorter lines and get through them much quicker. Remember this life lesson the next time you’re standing in line so that you can choose the line on the left.

Costco is the fifth-largest retailer in the world, pulling in more than $163 billion in sales last year. The store operates as a wholesale club, with nearly 110 million cardholders representing households and small and midsized businesses.

The company has more than 813 warehouse stores around the world, including 562 in the US, and it employs nearly 275,000 people.

Roughly one-third of US shoppers are Costco customers, according to data from the analytics firm Numerator prepared for Insider.

Why are M&M's called M&M's?
It comes from the last names of the candy company's founders, Forrest Mars and William Murrie. The name has stayed the same since the candy was introduced in 1941. Of course, the packaging and the "spokescandies" have changed considerably since.

How many M&M’S are in a Fun Size bag?
Every Fun Size bag of M&M's weighs in at approximately 0.47 ounces, but with production differences, you're not likely to have the exact same amount of M&M's in every pack. The internet is divided on the subject, with counts coming in anywhere from 17 to 22 pieces per pack.
