Things US Presidents Cannot Do

Drive a car on a public road
Lyndon B. Johnson was likely the last president to ever drive on a taxpayer-funded highway. However, they're allowed to drive on private property.

Accept expensive gifts
Rules are strict when it comes to presidents accepting expensive gifts from world leaders and other dignitaries. Gifts over US$390 have to be given to the National Archives. Anything less is considered as a souvenir or mark of courtesy.

Eat outside the White House without a "taster"
When the president eats outside the White House, the Secret Service tastes the president's food, but only when absolutely necessary. This is to avoid risk of any poisoning.

Attend their children’s performances or sporting events
A negative side of being the president is the impact it has on their immediate families. Due to security reasons and lack of time, they often can't attend their children’s performances or sporting events.

Romans would use urine as mouthwash
Sure, the Romans had some dubious practices, but using urine for dental hygiene is pretty out there even for them!

Though there is some method to the madness. Urine is rich in ammonia, which has stain-removing properties. Maybe the Romans were onto something after all...

Heroin was used to treat children’s cough
In the 1890s, heroin was commercialized by the German pharmaceutical company Bayer as a cough remedy.
In fact, the company specifically advertised its use for children up until 1912.

Elvis Presley was not a fan of the encore. When he left the stage, he never came back. Hence the expression "Elvis has left the building," which was announced by loudspeaker to the spectators of each concert, Elvis so that they would not wait in vain for his return, ended up becoming a slogan of American pop culture.

Pepsi Red Army
In 1989, the Soviet Union gave Pepsi 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate, and a destroyer. At the height of the Cold War, in 1972, Pepsi managed to market its product in the USSR after years of negotiations. But in 1989, the Soviet system collapsed and Pepsi received military equipment in exchange for its sales in the USSR. This made Pepsi the sixth largest military fleet in the world (according to established legend).

The (very expensive) scene that changed everything
The Wachowski sisters asked for $80 million to make 'The Matrix,' but Warner only gave them $10 million, and that's what they spent on the opening scene. When they showed the opening scene, the studio was convinced it was worth spending the millions.

Bagpipe bylaw
Victoria, BC, has some pretty extensive regulations governing street performers, including a special section relating specifically to bagpipers. Along with rules laying out where and when pipers can pipe, there is also legislation stating that a bagpiper can't perform at "the same time as another street entertainer whose performance includes bagpipes." Sadly, this eliminates the possibility of ever hearing "Duelling Banjos" played with bagpipes.

WALES ODD REGULATIONS

A) The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 makes it an offence to activate your burglar alarm and leave the house if you have not nominated a "key-holder" who can access your house to switch off the alarm if it goes off.
So, if you have forgotten to give a key to a friendly neighbour, you could technically end up in the dock with the burglar.

B)
We’ve all done it – parked the car only to find we don’t have enough change for the ticket.

But asking a stranger for change is still classed as begging under the Vagrancy Act 1824 and could mean you spend a month in "the house of correction".

C)
Playing football in the street
The Metropolitan Police Act 1839 makes it an offence to "fly any kite or play at any game to the annoyance of the inhabitants or passengers [...] in any street". So children having a kickabout outside your front door could land a £500 fine.

Teem | noun (proper)

Teem is brand of lemon-lime-flavored soft drink produced by The Pepsi-Cola Company. It was introduced in 1960 as Pepsi's answer to 7 Up and Coca-Cola's Sprite.

Teem was sold in the United States and Canada until it was discontinued in 1984 due to declining sales. Lemon-Lime Slice was introduced to replace Teem, though it was still available at some soda fountains into the 1990s. Sierra Mist has since taken over the Teem role in the US.

Teem remained on sale today in Brazil, Uruguay, Honduras, Nepal, and South Africa; it survived into the 1990s in other markets too, before Pepsi authorized vendors to replace it with 7 Up. It was available in India & Pakistan as well.

1

Supermarket beef is often artificially red
Contrary to common claims, meat companies do not dye beef to make it look redder and fresher—not with any regularity or as a general practice.

What is a common practice, however, according to Inside Edition, is to replace the gasses inside "air" tight packaging, removing air (and therefore oxygen) and replacing it with CO2, nitrogen, or carbon monoxide (or a blend of these). This practice is not harmful or dangerous, but it does preserve a red color that makes the meat look fresher than it likely is.

2

Beef production is terrible for the environment
You've probably heard that livestock production is horrible for planet earth, and you likely know that methane is a much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, but specific numbers can help drive this point home.

According to The Guardian, livestock, and principally cows, are responsible for 14% of all human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. Think of that: even with cars, trucks, planes, boats, factories, power plants, and fires burning around the globe, livestock still accounts for nearly 15% of climate gasses.

3
It’s illegal to run out of fuel on the Autobahn
TRUE. As a motorist in Germany you have to observe a gamut of laws. One of your obligations as a driver is to make sure to always fill up the tank on time. Especially when driving on the Autobahn, Germany’s world-famous speed-limit free highway-system, this can become a problem because it’s forbidden to stop. Yes, that’s right, if you pull over you better have a good reason for it! Running out of fuel doesn’t count, in fact it’s considered personal negligence and can get you a nice fine or even a point in Flensburg, which hosts the nationwide database of traffic violators, sometimes also called Verkehrssünderkartei (“traffic sinner card file”).

I suspect that may be because you havent driven on the autobahn Aardy =;
Anyone who has driven in Germany would find out very quickly as soon as you did any preparation.

Got stuck in Germany for 6 extra days the first time I went, because the local Police chief refused to let "der Englander" drive without snow chains............. mind you it was bad that year, even the DB (trains) stopped running

Royal Shoe-Wearer
Nobody likes breaking in a new pair of shoes, particularly when they’re heels! This is especially problematic when you have to wear them every day to endless public events and you’re in your nineties!

As such, a member of the Queen’s staff is responsible for breaking her new shoes in for her. Her royal stylist, Stewart Parvin, explained that it’s essential that someone soften up the Queen’s new leather heels before she heads out to perform her royal duties.

Keeper of the Swans
Someone has to keep an eye on the swans, naturally. In the past, there was an official position titled Keeper of the Swans, but in 1993 it was decided that one swan wrangler simply wasn’t enough. They divided the role into two titles: Marker of the Swans, currently held by David Barber, and Warden of the Swans, currently held by Professor Christopher Perrins (they sit to the left and right of the Queen, respectively).

Together, their responsibilities basically involve a yearly census of the swans that roam the River Thames. The process is called “swan-upping.” In the past, a swan would also be plucked from its watery home to be consumed at a banquet. That sort of thing doesn't fly these days, so they simply pick a swan and perform a ceremonial health check instead.

The Royal Linen Keeper
Buckingham Palace was looking to hire a Royal Linen Keeper in 2016. The role required someone “to ensure all linen requirements are met to the highest standards every day.” But above all else, they must ensure that “the cloth matches the magnificence of the banqueting table.”

The Keeper of the Queen's Stamps
Did you know that Queen Elizabeth is a stamp collector? It sounds a little fancier when she does it, though. The Royal Philatelic Collection is the impressive name given to her assortment of rare stamps from the past.

In reality, the Queen inherited the collection from her father, individual George VI, who was an avid collector. She isn’t particularly interested in them herself, but wants to ensure that his collection is properly preserved. As such, an expert called Michael Sefi has been appointed to keep a watchful eye over the safety of the Queen’s stamps.

What It Means

Yankee can refer broadly to anyone born or living in the U.S., or it can refer more narrowly only to those in the northern U.S., or even more narrowly, only to those in the states of New England. The broadest use is especially common outside the U.S.

// It took the children some time to adjust to being the only Southerners in a classroom full of Yankees.
