Re: USA Stores Going Under
Now the public needs to watch for this happened when Stores are closing and companies failing The PUBLIC pays for their gains
In 2015 Canada's Target went bankrupt closing 133 stores affecting 17,600 employees. While this was happening the CEO
Gregg Steinhafel's 'walk-away' package was estimated at $61M. Not bad for running a store into the gutter and walking away while creditors and employees had to suck it up.
$61,000,000!!!!
Another
Richard Fuld had a $66 million payday in 2000 because, well, he was a great chief executive officer, now wasn’t he?
Though the Internet bubble popped and the Nasdaq peaked in 2001, he made another $105.2 million. In 2002, he bagged yet another $28.7 million; 2003, $52.9 million; 2004, $41.8 million; 2005, $104.4 million; 2006, $27.3 million; 2007, $40 million.
His tab for eight years of CEO work came to $466.3 million.
You may still remember the name of his company. It was called Lehman Brothers. In 2008, it set a record as history’s largest bankruptcy, setting off the nuclear reaction we now call the financial crisis and cementing America’s future as a socialist state for giant banks and corporations.

Admittedly not for the faint of heart, but a friend of our daughter's (a professionally trained Mercedes mechanic who now works on his own) bought a 2015 M Class, fully loaded on ecarone.com in 2016 with 17,000 miles. At the time, the ad on the website included about 60 photos and details. He bought the car without seeing it in person, cash, had a friend pick it up in Dallas for him and deliver it 400 miles away. It took his friend about 30 minutes to sign the paperwork and leave the lot. The car has 83000 miles now, no issues. He said he'd do the same thing again without hesitation. Different strokes for different generations. Having looked at the website and talked to him, if I were in the market, I'd seriously consider such a method of buying a seond hand car

Re: USA Stores Going Under
High streets the world over are dying .. many factors but for sure on line buying etc is a major one , the sheer volume of sites like Lazada n Amazon etc and Orange Kerry trucks to cobble dogs with.
Other things the whole original shopping experience is more hassle how .. traffic and parking probs , weather , some people just to lazy to go into the towns .. unless its for a coffee a happy meal or visit the pound shop.
One day i might try to buy something on line as of now like Statts i never have in the past.

What's with all the cartoons TJ ? I can't see the relevance to this thread ? Maybe try on a trump thread .plenty to choose from . The death of shops is directly down to the internet , butchers, bakers and small grocery shops got killed off by the big supermarkets .in the UK you can order online just about everything from shoes laces to 85in TVs . As said earlier the covid has just speeded up the demise of the high street, it's not unique to America . Every developed country is going. Through this. Advice for JC Penney ,next time don't get so old over paid executive who thinks it's still the 60s to make bad decisions . Hire some 30year old underpaid guy who can set up an online store and delivery service .just a sign of the times I'm afraid

I've, (and many friends), purchased cars in the USA, (old cars, classics etc), online.
I've used professional services to go assess the car and send a report as to the condition and valuation compared to the asking price.
Also, my shipping agent provides this service as well.
Never had a problem.
These services are available in all modern countries, USA, Europe, Australia etc.
Cost between $500 - $1000, but the peace of mind is worth it.
Also, I know of plenty of people in Australia who bought old cars in USA, without using these services, and ended up with cars that look great but were totally rusted underneath.
So, it's buyer beware, but if you're going to spend a considerate amount, it's worth getting some assistance.
BTW, I've bought hundreds of things online, really never had a problem, only when I get what I pay for, which is to be expected.

Re: USA Stores Going Under
Good points Dean .. in UK first the big 3/4 supermarkets Asda , Tesco , Sainsburys , Morrisons after my time there Lidl and Aldi opened killing off the small family businesses like butchers , off licenses , chemists , Veg shops etc ... now the next wave is online shopping which appears to be with the onset of the C19 pandemic the final nail in the coffin for the likes of clothes , shoe shops , electronics etc.papafarang wrote: ↑May 18, 2020, 6:45 amWhat's with all the cartoons TJ ? Just another way in which life is changing and the smart phone and social media era has chipped away at the art of conversation and human interaction ..progress but very sad in colour

Thailand being hot will help malls ,but most malls seem to be meeting places to avoid roasting away outside

Also,
when I go to Central, I see lots of shops with no-one in them.
Don't know how they survive?

Re: USA Stores Going Under
Based on my observations outside Central and inside Big C Nittayo yesterday, retail shopping aint dead yet. Not in Udon anyway.
Thinking that the "all malls open" edict wouldn't kick into effect until AFTER publication in the Royal Gazette, I went to Tops around 1 p.m. yesterday. First thing I noted coming in past Tawandaeng was the covered, elevated parking showing cars on the 5th level and some dickheads parked on the roundabout. Slipping underground, I had to squeeze past a queue of about 50 locals, all bunched in a conga line, waiting to be tested and sign-in at the basement entrance to the department store bit. Noted the same simple temp check and hand gel at the entrance to Tops from the car park on the left. Not a single parking space to be had and the underground double-parking was already looking like 120% so I decided, meh... not today.
So, shot on up to Big C where the street side parking was being abused by motorbikes invading the grab and food panda slots near the ATM's. The entrance was reorganized with sign-in books on a desk after the gel and temp test. I gave DM's name and my ex-wife's phone number and went upstairs.
Heaving! Looks like just about every honest, social isolation honoring soul must have broken all their appliances during the lockdown. Fans, coolers, rice cookers, fridges and flat screens were rapidly filling up multiple shopping carts and trolleys.
