Thanks.
For context (and for giggle and Declan), that easy rollover was on Dubya & Condy's watch.

The US arms suppliers are certainly going to lobby for a new war. Over the past 20 years, they have made billions of dollars profit. This will put a big hole in their profits. I just hope that the government has learned a lesson that they will be able to remember. History shows that doing the same thing over and over again is the definition of insanity.

sadly glalt governments only last a few years , and the next government then completely forgets history. we are doomed to doing the same thing over and over, we've been doing it for a thousand years and still learned nothing.

As usual only part of the story is being told. What about the arms and equipment that the NATO forces abandoned? That equipment did not belong to the Afghan army. SNAFU!

When we left Aden end of '67, all the stuff was loaded onto HMS Hermes and dumped in the sea, Ammunition, Vehicles etc absolutely everything, cheaper to renew than bring back home to Blighty.

it wasn't abandoned it was left for the afghan army. unfortunately the army were there just to earn a living, 90% of afghans live in poverty, as for educating them an estimated 2,000,000 children couldn't afford to go to school as they had to work to help feed their families. its stupid to think anyone joined the afghan army to fight for democracy which is a western concept. they joined to get paid so they could eat. a complete farce, every time you saw a picture of the afghan army it looked like a bunch of hungry uneducated group just trying to survive. they lost nearly 70,000 troops , they were just used as cannon fodder so westerners didn't have to risk their lives . so when they saw the americans running they knew it was over and time to go home.

The hated infidels are gone but there is still plenty of hatred to go around. Many more will die with the factions fighting each other. It's doubtful that the country will ever have widespread peace.

Ben Wallace, Britain’s defence secretary, suggested the US could no longer be considered a superpower in an interview where he also contrasted his department’s handling of the Afghanistan crisis with that of the embattled Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The pointed comments – coming at a time of heightened transatlantic and domestic tensions over the messy retreat – feature in an interview in the Spectator magazine given days after the final western forces evacuated from Kabul.

Asked whether the exit from Afghanistan demonstrated the limits of British power on the world stage, Wallace started by saying, “It is obvious that Britain is not a superpower,” then appeared to switch his focus to the US. “But a superpower that is also not prepared to stick at something isn’t probably a superpower either. It is certainly not a global force, it’s just a big power,” the defence secretary added.

Those close to the defence secretary acknowledged that his remarks could be read as being aimed at the US. An insider argued that the British minister was emphasising the importance of political will as well as sheer military power.

Britain is the worst ally America has ever had. Including, now, the Taleban, if Blowhard Biden is to be believed.

He's not lying, he simply doesn't recognize the facts. The Taliban has many well trained pilots. They were trained by the US and NATO. Those valuable pilots just changed sides.

I believe they were speaking about disabling the planes/equipment at Kabul Airport before they left.
