8 should also include Arkansas.

#8. The Ozark mountains comprise one of the oldest ranges on earth. They are primarily in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas with a slight intrusion into Oklahoma and Kansas. Some folks in southern Illinois claim to be in the "Ozark area" but that is more of a cultural, rather than geographic, presence.

It was deliberately cryptic.

For example, question 1. Who invented the steam engine, popular choice would be James Watt, however he did not inventive the first steam engine, thus the cryptic clue 'NOT WATT YOU THINK'.

Watt was the first to realise the potential of steam as a driving force for engines. It is a matter of semantics when when one uses the word "engine". It could easily be argued that the first ever railway train was invented by Richard Trevithick in my hometown. The English have long claimed this honour for George Stephenson. First steam whistle was also invented in my hometown by another Cornish man - Adrian Stephens. It is a disgrace that he is buried in an unmarked grave and I am one of only a handful of men who know its location.

Yes we had the steam whistle mentioned on here before.

In fact, it was discovered, rather than invented by Herman Grassberger in a village outside Cologne. He accidentally discharged a musket in his kitchen that hit his kettle on a wood stove, the resultant damage to the kettle created a small flute from which a high pitched sound emanated. He thought nothing else of the incident until many years later when Stephens patented it. Nobody knows where Grassberger was buried and very few know his story.

I think that very few people have ever heard of Herr Grassberger or his musket. Herr Wasserkocher's aunt Sarah was certainly the first to have a functioning kettle and, if memory serves me right, she had a bread knife which had a red handle. The envy of the village.

Never Dervish with a red-handled bread knife, it's right up there with running with scissors.
