Spamhaus

Post by Laan Yaa Mo » October 25, 2022, 4:28 am

I tried to post on the Map this morning from a high school and got a message from Udon Map that I have never seen before: 'Your IP 70.25.127.2 has been blocked because it is blacklisted. For details please see http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=70.25.127.2.'

Has anyone received a similar message from Udon Map? Has someone at the high school been a good or bad girl/boy?

The Spamhaus link indicated, '70.25.127.2 has no issues'.

Google says this about Spamhaus: 'Is Spamhaus legitimate?
Spamhaus is an international authority on IP and domain reputation, founded in London in 1998. Their mission is to track malicious actors and threats, including spam-like activity, to make the internet safer for users.'

Got the same message several times, but more than a year ago.

Yes, but it doesn't mean the machine is infected with anything. Spamhaus is an ISP blocker so it could be triggered by another source on the same network. I used to get them frequently on my last job where the ISP could be in any one of four countries our vsat system connected to. You can use a VPN to get around it.

Yep. Was a while ago, I used tunnelbear VPN to get around it. The free version of tunnelbear gives you 500MB a month so quite suitable for stuff like this.

Thanks. I have no trouble on my home laptop. It is only on the high school computer that I have run into this message.

No, I don't have a clue where his hideout is, do you? Yikes! I thought he was Petty Officer. My error.

Oh, well, that makes it easy. He'll either be at Central or Ta Wan Daeng.

Spamhaus works on IP addresses that have been used for spamming etc. but IP addresses are not permanent, they are allocated to you by the ISP, but if you do not log on for a while it is reallocated to someone else. I have had Spamhaus messages about 4 times for Udonmap, first time i spent hours virus checking my computer, but nothing wrong. Just means you have probably been allocated an IP address last used by a spammer. These days i just do not post for a day or two and it goes away.

If you are using home wifi just power off, unplug, the modem for about 5 to 10 mins. You should then get a new I.P. when you power it back up.

Thanks for the advice. My home laptop is not the problem. I dare not pull the plug on the high school power or I am liable to be banished forever.

I say, I just had one of those Spamhaus thingummies. Is Officer IC Udon Map having a little fun at my expense? He is, after all, the Professor Moriarty to my Sherlock Holmes.

Reboot your router.

Oh yes, and wash your hands as well.

Lidl's in Thetford? There's your answer right there.
