STUFF (Hopefully of Interest)

The paint roller
If you've ever seen the "paint-roller" segment by Canada's favourite handyman Red-Green, then you know that it is a 100% Canadian invention. The world owes the invention of the ever-useful paint roller to Canadian Norman Breakey.
The Canadian inventor died before getting the patent
Breakey invented the paint roller in Toronto in 1940. However, he died before getting a chance to patent his invention.
American Richard Croxton Adams was the first to patent the paint roller design and profit from it.

Red Green knows his stuff by keeping his stick on the ice. Great show.

The first road lines in the world were painted in Canada
John D. Millar worked for the Ontario department of transportation and invented the concept of road lines. Thanks to Millar the first road lines in the world were painted on a highway between Ontario and Quebec in 1930.

The WW2 Spitfire and it Pilots were a machine that ruled the skies BUT Ammo was not the main thing . It appears the Pilots had a significant hand in winning

How much ammo did a Spitfire hold? The short answer is about 15 seconds of total fire, delivered in seven to eight two-second bursts. A Spitfire MKI and II had eight (8) Browning. 303 machine guns, each with 300 rounds and a rate of fire, when sustained, at 1,150 rounds per minute. A total weight of 2,400 rounds was carried.

Google maps - invented in Australia

Lars and Jens Rasmussen were responsible for developing the Google Maps platform in Sydney during the early years of the 21st Century.

Partnering up with home-grown Australian techies Neil Gordon and Stephen Ma, Lara and Jens founded a small start-up company called Where 2 Technologies in 2003 to develop the world’s best global mapping system.

After a year, the company had made waves in the technology industry and was purchased by Google as a result. They also hired the four men to develop their software into what we know as Google Maps today.

Sir Geoffrey de Havilland would probably dispute the suggestion that the commercial jet was a Canadian invention. :D

Pratty dear boy.
Doodoo did not claim that that James Floyd invented commercial airplane's he was specific in saying "the first to fly in North America. Even your Wikipedia article confirms. Also developed in 1949 was the Avro Canada C102 Jetliner. Do try to be accurate my boy before you send the attack squadrons in. Like your new avatar, two wee yapping dogs. Suits you.

Dd's post is headed "Canadian Inventions" and then Jetliner. I guess you can interpret that in a couple of ways - makes it easier if you have a sense of humour to be able to recognise that.

I had no doubt you would identify with the new avatar. 👍
