My Favourite Thai New Year Custom
Although Thai New Year officially ended on 15th April there were still things to do on the 16th. There was the pouring of water on sacred objects in the home, and my favourite the washing of my feet by my wife. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the latter. As my feet were given a wash, my wife recited a prayer and asked me to forgive her for her errors, and was crying. I said, no, no, no, you don't have to apologise to me for anything. In my way of thinking, we are equals. Then I asked, does a husband also have to clean the feet of his wife and offer an apology too? The answer is no. Well, who am I to reject a centuries old custom? I decided to embrace it. I indicated that she only said sorry for two things when in fact there must be dozens if not hundreds or thousands of things she has done to upset me in the past year. Subsequently, I bought her a large notebook so she can write down every mistake on a daily basis and read them back to me next year. I am looking forward to the coming year with great anticipation even though the recital of errors may interrupt my viewing of Hong Kong films starring Chow Yun Fat, Amy Yip, Andy Lau and Anita Mui Yip-fong on Channels 24, 29 and 33 (Sunday afternoons).

I don't drink alcohol and never have, but if you replace the beer with ice-cold water, you have summed it up well.
Anyway, she is just following an ancient Thai custom that I heartily approve of.
