It would be more realistic if they also provided average monthly incomes alongside - or based their figures on percentage of disposable income.

I could (and did) earn more in one day in one of the cities at the top of the list than I could in a whole month here in Thailand.

Do you see what I am getting at ?

Paul.

London at number 3
The cost of living in London is high but the standard of living is low.
ฃ10 to ฃ15 for a hair cut. You can spot a Londoner by their shabby hair, they can't afford a haircut.
Expensive fruit and vegtables, thats why you see so many fat, redfaced, obese kids who stink, it's all the cheap junk food they eat.
Look at the teeth of a Londoner, they all have the colour of the Irish flag, nobody here can afford a dentist.
Londoners pay an average ฃ1500 pound a year "Council Tax" for that you get your trash taken away and can borrow moth eaten books from the town libary, and you provide a free house for a single mother who can't keep her legs together.
The cars are mostly old and battered, the nice new ones are driven around by drug dealers, and pimps, and bald sales reps in cheap shiny nylon suits.
Lots of people on bicycles,(No money for the bus fare) that ride through red lights dressed in shabby shorts that I would not use to clean my old batterd car with.
It really is a struggle for the average person living in London, and with mega high property prices most people are skint at the end of the month.
London is dirty, grubby, seedy and vastly overrated.

I see what you're saying Paul.

Tony, you paint such a lovely picture of London, maybe you should work for the London tourist board? LOL
I think what you're saying would apply to most of the UK too! And that's why 1,000's leave each year in search of a better life and existance.

Heard on the radio today that 51% of Londoners live below the poverty line.

BB,
The sum mentioned on the radio program was ฃ10,000 a year to live on London. That's why you see so many shabby people in London.
Tower Hamlets is one of Europe's poorest regions. I'd say you need about ฃ30,000+ to have a half decent lifestyle.

Yeah that is a damn well low salary to try and get by on round here.

10 grand would only just about cover my mortgage, insurance and council tax payments every year :(.

Tell you what though, I dont think 30k is enough if you have a fair size family, would probably do for a hubby and wife living out in the suburbs, but nearer to 40k if you have 2.4 children, just to keep things ticking along.

If BKK = 125.

Does that mean that Udon Thani = 145?

White Plains (45) and Morristown (80) ? Two thriving metropolises, for sure. lol. Never been there but kinda surprised to see Manila=143 from what I've read and heard about it. Thought Anchorage, Alaska would be ranked near the top, also.

Yeah, Gary, I also wondered where Udon Thani would rank if this list of expensive cities were expanded to, say, 1000 cities. Based on available data and careful analysis I place UT at 400 :^o

The countries below Thailand are not attractive alternatives,so i think we have all chosen well.I did try India first but the poverty was horrendous and depressing.
