We frequent the Tesco Lotus store right next door. We asked the workers at the Tesco Lotus store what was being built next door and they just told us some kind of store but they were not sure what of store was being built.

Thanks for that parrot. Just this week we passed the building site on our way back from the wife's village. I asked her what was being built and she didn't know. She did think it was another supermarket though.

That will great for us that are living in this area.
Lets hope that it lasts longer than the Automobile dealership that opened up some time ago right down the road at the stop light.

Cannot see the business case for a Tops right beside a fairly busy Tesco Lotus in Nong Han. But thats why I live here and not on a big boat on the French Rivera coast. Wonder who will last longest.

Seems TOPS Nong Han will open this friday 11th august.
I don't particularly like the Tesco Lotus in the food department and although the TOPS Udon is rather expensive in that regards I might become a frequent visitor.

Same for toiletries and household items.

Passed Tops Nong Han at 8.30 this morning and it looked dead, passed coming back around 11.45 and absolute chaos. Cars parked on both sides of the carriageway for hundreds of meters. It looked as if there were so many people they could not get in the doors. Poor Tesco Lotus completely swamped by Tops people.

My wife and I stopped in this afternoon. Cars parked on both sides of the highway. We were able to find a parking spot in the parking lot. The store was packed with people. Every check out had a long line. There was a lot of Pork and Chicken. We looked for the Mr. Sausage Frankfurters and ground beef that you can get at the Tops in Central Plaza and did not find either one. We did not check out the entire store because it was just crowded with too many people. We will try again at a later time after the grand opening chaos dies down. The store hours posted on the sign in the parking lot were 07:00 to 21:00 hrs.

I hope I am wrong but that eastern exit from Nong Han ( and the U turn to Tesco Lotus ) is now looking very dangerous. Maybe just for the first few days after Tops opens but some real assholes today ( driving up the carriageway past the slip way then diving into the right turn blocking both east bound lane traffic and people trying to turn into Nong Han.) Guess what was missing? The BIB, maybe having lunch with the GIK's.

You need to have a look at yourself Taxi. Some really good schools, not bad fresh markets and supermarkets. Not the same crazy traffic as the BIG CITY. All in All not bad for the sticks.

A big improvement over the next-doors Tesco, 5555
But chaos indeed, was lucky to park my car at a corner spot.
They reserved parking space for VIPS and a had a kids air castle taking up space, very smart for an opening day....
Big supermarket, nice, modern, would still be smaller than the Kumpawapi Tesco.
Potatos were 35B, carrots 17, Tipco juices at normal 69B but buy 2 get 1 free, thus at 46B the best tipco deal ever (53 at Makro). Bought a Cubic multigrain small bread at 69B, not worth the money, will continue with 99B dark Big C bread on my Saturday morning Big C shopping (they have excellent frozen vegs France import around 140/150B kg)
Eggs were 75B for 30, guess opening promotion...
Not impressed by bread station, only saw 2 kinds of baguette, no real fresh bread, only Thai pastries.
No farang food so to speak, weak cheese choice, weak cold cuts.
If the usual thai items are similarly priced as next doors Tesco I will choose Tops.

Opening days are chaos, will visit again after next Monday school closing.
We arrived there before lunch time, when we got out cars were parked everywhere, after a Bangkok style U-turn tentative with 50 cars wanting to U-turn a cop must have shown up, keeping the green rigth turning light on for at least 30 cars. And indeed the east side Nong Han exit is a death trap with cars trying to do a U-turn there towards Tops and Tesco, blocking the oncoming traffic towards Sakon Nakhon.

I stopped for food at the Mobil petrol station opposite Tops and their parking was overloaded as well.

Popped in at the Tops Superstore today Saturday at 10h15, parking lot was very busy but inside can cope as it is huge. Has a nice covered mall area with many independent shops, including KFC, Mister Donut, Daeng Namneung from Nongkhai, B2S and many more. I would think Udon city could handle 3 or 4 or 5 of these places around town.

Did not see any coffee shop though perhaps has one. A splendid "OK Coffee" is across the street at the Esso station where parking is easy too.
