A respected monk from Wat Po (near VT Namneuang) will be cremated in the afternoon hours of 14 May. The 105 year old monk died in December. From what I read in the Thai press, the funeral will be a royal-sponsored event......so might expect to see someone from the royal family there.
If you're headed to the event, plan for traffic. If you aren't headed to the event, you might want to take long detours around the area.

Wat Po Funeral Services
Re: Wat Po Funeral Services
Looks like the funeral ceremonies will be held between 14-17 May. I saw numerous signs along the ring road (near Faroh Restaurant) directing cars to park in a variety of areas near there (and that's quite a ways from Wat Po!). Additionally, several extra large tents are going up in Tungsrimeuang for people to pay their respects (also pretty far from Wat Po). All said and done, I'd expect traffic to be pretty bad from the ring road (near Chris's Bar to old Lotus) and all areas near Nongprajak and Tungsrimeaung during the funeral ceremonies. Not sure who, but expect someone from the Royal Family to be present.....so that will add to the crowd.
