Explosion at east-side ice factory

I am away from the town at the moment but Mrs tam reports a big explosion at the ice factory just up the street from the house beside Nong Lek Noi lake, just behind the Old People's Home just northeast of the Nong Sai road and ringroad traffic lights. Some people reported hurt, no deaths as far as we know but people were requested to move indoors with windows and doors closed which suggests their ammonia gas pressure vessel exploded. Happened some tie after 9 AM this Sunday morning.

Anything on the local wires yet?

Cheers parrot.

Mrs tam apparently had quite a houseful for about an hour while they did the damping down and dispersal.

Looking at some of those pictures , some of the injured are ventilated.

Ammonia gas inhalation is a nasty condition to have and requires long term respiratory support in a well dedicated clinical unit.

Knowing how the system works with these types of treatment, the relatives will soon be shown how to hand ventilate them, with trachys insitu.

KK Trauma Hospital had Cardiac Arrest codes every morning in the same step down ward from ICU - High Dependancy

I asked about the trend - " The relatives knock the trachy out when washing the patient or turning them for pressure care "

Looks like the injured got a good washing down (decontaminate) before entering the hospital.

Wonder how many people assisting have minor / mild chemical exposures.

Washdowns, always remember to irrigate the soles of the feet if the patient is still standing. In between the webbing of fingers and toes also.

Those latex examination gloves seen around town , wouldnt stand a chance.

Im sure the local HAZMAT team would have been busy ( sadly )

According to the lady that runs the place, she has a local chap work nights tasked with regularly topping up the water on something heat & pressure vessel related. Lazy bugger, known to slip into the odd bottle of lao khao while at work apparently did the latter and forgot to do the former.

Good news she has ben able to deflect all blame to the employee.

We can all see she is not to blame she employed and kept an employee that she new was a drinker and left him in control of the plant.

Mrs tam advised me that the most seriously injured victim apparently succumbed to his injuries a few days ago. I would assume that the ammonia gas inhalation was the cause but no clarity if he died in an Udon hospital or had been moved elsewhere.

When I first moved to Udon in the '80's we lived in that area on Soi Prachasanti. I used to call that "the dirty ice" good for chilling beer in an ice-box but not for consumption. i was always fascinated how they shaved the blocks of ice waiting for the operator to lose his thumb on the upturned plane. In the good old days b4 Health & Safety. I guess it caught up on them eventually. Hope any compensation helps the victims?
