The hardest part for some who have the monthly cash of 100k may be the health insurance coverage as difficult to get when over 60 or 65 years of age (not sure age Thai companies stop coverage).

As long as I have to continue a 90 Day report, there is no point.
The Retirement Visa for one year is easy and painless. It usually occurs on or near my last 90 Day Report of the year. Four times a year for 10 years is no different than four times a year for a year -- over 10 years.
There is no advantage to this, and I'm certainly not locking up 3 million baht for a year. For what purpose exactly?
I cannot see any advantage to this at all.

Low soo's out,high soo's in...God morning my friend LS !
Totally agree with you..I for sure don't have any way near 3 milion to "lockup".And then think about the nearly no existent intrest you get from Thai Banks..This is yet another not-well thought out "thing"from people who not connected to the real expat world...My 2 bath worth...Have a good day everyone.

Does it have to be a Thai bank account?
Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
How long have you been in Thailand Paul?
They need the "control"of us staying here..90 day report, building a 30 billion bath woth Internet gate so they can "check"wathevere"they want..and moore..And you honestly think they would be happy to lose whatever little money they make on your "locked"3 millon..come on Paul.
But then this IS Thailand so you just might have a point there,we will see...Have a good day Paul.

BANGKOK — Affluent foreign residents over 50 will soon be able to apply for 10-year visas, a government spokesman said Tuesday.
Hey! It says "affluent" NOT EFFLUENT!

there is some value in this, as things (immigration rules) constantly change it would be good to have a firm 5 or 10 year visa in the pocket.
of course being Thailand, it's also possible they'll collect all the baht from this and then cancel the whole program and pocket the baht.
So, Reguirements:
3 million baht in a Thai Bank or 100k income per month.
Medical Coverage
Do you need to be married???

oh, do you really expect annual visa cost to remain at 1.9k baht over the next 5-10 years??

Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
If this news report turns into policy you need to ask yourself a few questions:
1. Do I have the income/cash and wish to bring it onshore?
2. Can I get or afford the medical cover, or wish to change my current cover arrangements?
3. Do I have another option...work/study/marriage?
or
4. Considering the above do I want to stay in Thailand?
I am surprised at the scale of the increase and add on rules, but not that there may have been a revision of the 50+ option.
There has been widespread abuse of the old scheme with agents getting extensions under the table.
I collect my married visa next week!

Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
Wi the existing 1 year retirement visa still be an option?
Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
It is a usual well thought out this ,over 50, 3mil, med insurance , most fail on the 3mil ( and those who would lock it away in this country , not ), more who have previous medical conditions and also those over a certain age can't get medical ins ,
yep another brainstorming session needed , not with standing and still have to do the 90 day reports , ha yes right ,
