brake service

Post by tamada » May 17, 2021, 8:17 pm

Specifically flush and change the brake fluid on the sports lorry. I bought one of them LED brake fluid testers and it lit up like a Christmas tree so it needs changing.

.
I already bought three bottles of DOT4 fluid as I was going to do them myself as part of the main DIY service. I have done all that but the brakes either needed two people or faffing about with some extra kit which I can't be arsed with.

B-Quik
Despite being just up the road, I have only dealt with B-Quik twice and the second time was to supervise them correcting the mistakes they made on first visit.

YMMV

Update from last May.

Did it myself... OK, I had a mate do the pedal pumping. Took about 10 minutes. All good.

Heaps of diy one set of hands only bleeders around such as this ...no need to pump the pedal.

Actually, top up the reservior, crack the bleeder with 1/4" plastic tube in a bottle. Done.
Just keep and eye on the level in the master cylinder.

Plenty on Lazada and Shopee too.

I have subsequently added a non-return valve to my 20 baht plastic fantastic bleeder bottle gizmo so can do it all by myself... if I want to. But brake bleeding with a buddy and a six-pack of piss is better IMHO.

Further on this subject about 15 months ago it fely as if my brakes were not actually responding as they should, fluid levels ok, but nevertheless, put it in Mitsubishi to check, it transpired the Master Cylinder after 18 years was slowly dying or to put it another way the pressure was not as intended, so chose to change the Master Cylinder. a very unexpensive choice done in 3 hours and all brakes obviously beld and fluid replaced.

Spo for those with soft brakes also look at all aspects not just replacing the fluid.

If you leave the tube in the bottle under the level of the fluid, no valve required.(physics 101)
