you brits & scots are so desperate to erase centuries of history . you ran slave forts on west coast of africa. you shipped millions of slaves to
dozens of islands in caribbean to run your various plantations . so brutal and cruel often life expectancy was but a few years. and despite mansions & streets and monuments celebrating these slave lords in your own countries , you want
us to believe , none were ever kept in the u.k.
Did you even read the article I posted a link to?

Why would www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk, a website 'celebrating great black British achievers' paint a picture of the Scots having a rather benign interest in importing slaves to the Scottish homeland if it wasn't true? Why would they claim, "At any given time there were only about 70 or 80 slaves in Scotland..."?

We've already acknowledged the COMMON KNOWLEDGE that Scots were significant architects of slave trading in the 1700's. We bought and sold them to huge profit and supplied the boats to transport them to their deaths. It's also ALREADY COMMON KNOWLEDGE that Scots were ahead of the rest of the UK when it came to abolition. The owning of personal slaves was banned in Scotland in 1778 which was a whole 55 years before the UK abolition of the trade and 87 years before the Americans abolished it.

"It did not become illegal to own a slave in Scotland until 1778. Until then it had been fashionable for wealthy families to have a young 'black boy' or girl 'attending' on them."

https://www.nls.uk/collections/topics/slavery

Nope. No sign of your thousands of black-skinned slaves toiling in Scottish textiles factories, digging for coal in the mines or herding sheep on farms IN SCOTLAND.

For the most part, in the 1700's, the Scots had their own white slaves to contend with.

Slavery and bondage in Scottish collieries.

For nearly two hundred years in the history of coal mining in Scotland, miners were bonded to their "maisters" by a 1606 Act "Anent Coalyers and Salters". The Colliers and Salters (Scotland) Act 1775 stated that "many colliers and salters are in a state of slavery and bondage" and announced emancipation; those starting work after 1 July 1775 would not become slaves, while those already in a state of slavery could, after 7 or 10 years depending on their age, apply for a decree of the Sheriff's Court granting their freedom. Few could afford this, until a further law in 1799 established their freedom and made this slavery and bondage illegal."

If you have the ability to read, something I doubt, then perhaps before spouting on about the UK you might like to read up on your own history which is strewn with xenophobia and slavery. Then with a greater knowledge you can speak about other nations whose history was written in many cases long before the country of called America even came into existence .

I wonder who was the last British PM to own slaves. I don't think Mr. Johnson owns any. Perhaps Mrs Thatcher kept a few Argies as slaves. :^o
Thanks for your intelligent and insightful input, many people will now be able to sleep better after that.

You really need to attend more classes. The slave forts were nearly 100% owned and run by Black tribesmen (the winning side) and Arabs. Most European slave ship owners used the forts as a sort of slave 7/11. Go in, buy what you need and transport home. Very infrequently, if at all, did Scots/Brits/Europeans go into the bush to capture their own natives. But there again, moon , cream cheese, earth and flat all figure in your theory of life.

If you think that any U.N. Organisation actually goes out and feeds the poor of the world, you are sorely mistaken. They are all highly overpaid individuals with job security for life, working from stainless steel palaces in country capitals. They would not recognise a starving Yemeni child in front of them. In the UK, much of the extra funding given by `government is spent by parents on booze and lottery scratch cards.

Come on then statto lets hear your take on specific policies that have caused the UK to become a 3rd World Nation that we can no longer feed the children. Please no more 'Marked Secret' for 50 years and just how Sir Starmers solutions, if any (we will be a positive opposition!!) would work.
