Trump has taken a page out of the Immigration Playbook of Thailand.

Applicants for US visas will be denied entry to the US unless they can prove an ability to afford health care. The Executive Order was signed late last week.

Love it.

The measure will go into effect on November 3, 2019. It is one of many efforts to create a merit-based immigration system. Immigration in the US has always been one where the immigration policy benefits the country. It does not exist to allow anyone and everyone in.

This will be added to:
- Green cards are now being denied to immigrants who use any form of public assistance
- Recovery of income-based welfare payments from sponsors
- Verification of immigration status for anyone seeking public housing
- Medicaid cannot be used
- Immigrants are not qualified to use ObamaCare subsidies because those are paid by US taxpayers

NYC Restaurants feeling the heat after 9 months of forced minimum wage of $15 an hour.

Considered a huge victory by the Marxists and supposedly a win for the working class.

Democrats are the undisputed Champions of Unintended Consequences -- yes, they retain the title.

The NY Post featured a story on a business on a the upper west side that has been thriving for a quarter of a century. They're closing their doors.
Big Apple restaurants are feeling the heat from minimum-wage hikes, cutting staff hours and even closing kitchens as they struggle to shoulder the extra payroll costs.

Gabriela’s Restaurant and Tequila Bar, a margarita and taco staple on the Upper West Side for the past 25 years, is closing at the end of September — and it has been a long, painful road downhill, according to its mom-and-pop owners.

Since the $15-an-hour minimum wage hit New York City in December, Liz and Nat Milner say, they’ve been forced to slash their full- and part-time staff to 45 people from 60. Quality has suffered, they admit, and customers have noticed: They’re not coming in like they used to, and when they do, they’re spending less.
Damn. If only someone would have been able to show NYC what would happen if they imposed a minimum wage that businesses could not afford. 55555 It's not funny. NYC was warned that staff and hours would be cut in the beginning and that there was a possibility that it would drive employers out of business.

This particular shop laid off a quarter of their staff to try to make ends meet.

The NY Post also highlighted another restaurant in Harlem with 40 employees. Hours have been cut, prices of products have been raised, menu options have been reduced, service has not been as good, and it has resulted in fewer customers.

The people who lose jobs, then don't have the money to spend elsewhere with local merchants, so they end up suffering as well. Some refer to this as a domino or snowball effect. Call it whatever you want to call it, the results are affecting the economy negatively. Reports are that the restaurant industry in NY has lost 4,000 jobs this year -- and still going.

These kinds of results are consistent with minimum wage increases that the market cannot bear. LIBs have a steep learning curve.

Joe diGenova explains the politics of the phony impeachment inquiry. Phony because an inquiry doesn't officially begin until there is full vote for that inquiry in the House. Pelosi doesn't want to call the vote for two reasons: 1 - to give cover for Dem members in the House in Trump districts and 2 - because a full vote and official inquiry provides rights of the POTUS to have Republican members of the House to have subpoena power and call witnesses. This phony inquiry leaves control of the entire process in the hands of only Democrats, which means there is no due process or presumption of innocence. What is happening has never happened in any previous impeachment hearing or investigation.

Also some interesting process information on the gossipblower and the new whistleblower.

An interesting perspective from Jake Novak.

=====

No matter where you turn, the news is filled with embarrassing stuff about President Trump. The CIA whistleblower complaint about his conduct on a call with Ukraine’s president has turned into a full-court impeachment scandal.

But through all of this, Trump’s approval rating is at its highest level of the year according to the Hill-HarrisX survey, and the other major polls taken since this Ukraine phone call whistleblower story emerged show few changes from the last surveys taken before the news broke.

How is this possible?

Anyone still asking that question simply hasn’t come to terms with why Donald Trump won the 2016 election in the first place. In short, Trump was elected to be the ultimate disruptor and to play that disruptive role as much as possible. “Drain the swamp” wasn’t just a campaign slogan, but a visceral feeling against establishment Washington in every way. Millions of Americans who voted for Trump and still support him chose him precisely because he is nasty, breaks the rules, and shows little respect for the political establishment at every level.

(Those who voted for Trump wanted him to be the REAL WHISTLEBLOWER on the political class in both parties. A nice, calm, well-mannered guy would be crushed by what has been thrown at Trump. The nice guy would have already stepped down. Americans voted for the Brawler from Queens for that very reason. He has not disappointed.)

To really be mad at Trump for asking foreign leaders to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden or Hillary Clinton, the voters need to believe that Clinton and the Bidens aren’t inherently corrupt. They must also believe that just about all the rules and established groups within American government, especially the intelligence community, deserve unquestioned respect.

Here’s a newsflash: a very large number of Americans don’t have that trust and respect, and they’re generally OK with Trump being the junkyard dog who digs it all out.

This is Donald Trump’s brand.

Comedian Dennis Miller put it as succinctly as possible with a Facebook post Thursday where he simply wrote: “The simple fact is that if Trump was vaguely presidential he wouldn’t be President.”

This goes beyond scandalous or nasty behavior. Even little things like frequent misspellings in his tweets reinforce his brand of being anything but a polished politician.

It became clear during the end of the 2016 election, that this is also why Trump’s many exaggerations and outright falsehoods are judged by a different standard. Going back to his days as a casino mogul and reality TV show host, Trump established a brand for bluster or “puffing” that we accept when we see commercials for the “best car ever,” and the “greatest show on earth.” Fact-checking Trump is almost a waste of time as much of the public accepts his bluster in a way no established politician can ever get away with.

Branding is an important guide when it comes to seeing how any given president can weather scandals. We know that from two very different presidents in the past who came out of their own impeachment scandals very differently, thanks largely due to their political and personal branding.

For President Richard Nixon, who was elected in 1968 largely on “law and order” branding, the revelations that he himself had likely broken the law were devastating. Nixon’s approval numbers began to tank as soon as the Watergate accusations and investigations reached regular front page status. Nixon was never impeached, but the House Judiciary Committee did vote in favor of sending articles of impeachment to the full House floor. That helped force his ouster and by the time of his resignation in 1974, his approval rating was at an all-time low of about 22%.

Fast forward about 20 years and President Bill Clinton was actually impeached by the Republican-controlled House. But while the official charge was perjury, Clinton was really mired in an extramarital affair scandal. As embarrassing as the Lewinsky scandal facts were, they were in no way a surprise to most Americans who were already aware of Clinton’s philandering history. In essence, it was part of a brand that made him seem much more real to voters compared to the stodgier George H.W. Bush and Bob Dole.

Clinton was also helped by something that didn’t exist in Nixon’s time: a 24/7 cable news media that provided his supporters ample opportunities to make their cases for him and attack his accusers. Right now, Trump is getting at least some of that support on Fox News and some smaller conservative networks. Also unlike Nixon, Trump has his own Twitter account and many other supporters on social media. Throw in the conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin who are defending him daily, and this is yet another reason why the rules are very different than they were in 1973-74.

Branding and different standards aren’t the only reasons why Bill Clinton and Trump fare better than Nixon when it comes to scandal. Nixon was also straddled with high inflation and a generally weak economy during the final years of his presidency while Trump is riding a still strong economy and Clinton enjoyed the same scenario.

None of this means the Ukraine scandal won’t hurt the president in the long run. That’s especially true if it coaxes another truly non-establishment candidate off the sidelines to challenge him. But those seeking to impeach and remove him don’t seem to understand that this push is just as likely to help Trump, as his generally static poll numbers and improved fundraising since the scandal broke continue to prove.

Donald Trump is different. He plays by different rules and is judged by different rules. As long as his opponents play by the old rules, he’s likely to survive this scandal and the 2020 re-election battle.

Trump's enemies worry about "Retail Trump" while "Wholesale Trump" and the America First Doctrine marches on. His enemies still don't get it.

Leftist publications are sounding the alarm bells for Democrats and warning them of backfire.

Both The Nation and Rolling Stone Magazine, neither friends of Trump, penned articles in the last week that outline some very bad results for Democrats if they continue to push for impeachment with very little to show for it.

Aaron Maté wrote “The Ukraine Scandal Might Be a Bad Gambit for Democrats." He tags Trump with his perception that Trump asking to investigate corruption is unethical, he questions whether such a request rises to the level of impeachment.

He also questioned why there was this impulsive push to impeach even before the transcript was released, but we know why. Pelosi knew about the gossipblower already, and she didn't think Trump would release the transcript. Ooooops.
The complaint references a ‘word-for-word transcript’ produced by the Situation Room. If that is different from the one released by the White House, then perhaps there is still a smoking gun to be found. But if not, then as it stands, Democrats would be pushing for the most serious verdict possible, removal of the president from office, on a shaky case.

It is worth asking why Trump’s behavior was already deemed impeachment-worthy before such critical pieces of evidence were available.
. . .
For Democrats to once again oppose Trump via a militarist, Cold War “scandal” risks more danger for Ukraine, Russia, and their own 2020 prospects. We all know how the last one turned out: three years of innuendo, discredited “bombshells,” and an investigation that not only found no Trump-Russia conspiracy but, upon scrutiny, almost no actual contact between Trump and Russia—insofar as “Russia” means the government that his campaign supposedly conspired with, not just Russian passport-holders or people who claim to know them. It should now be clear what Russiagate meant for the cause of defeating Trump in 2020.
. . .
Even if Trump and Giuliani’s worst suspicions about Biden are incorrect, what is already established is damning enough. Hunter Biden obtained his lucrative board seat on a Ukrainian gas company despite having no experience in the country, and just months after his father’s administration backed a coup that overthrew its government.
So there's the transcript of the call, which Democrats now claim a conspiracy to alter it. The transcript is the factual evidence. The gossipblower complaint is an accusation that the transcript does not support. Then Maté accurately points out that we've been down this road before. This Ukraine hysteria is a mirror image of the Mueller Dossier that has recently even experienced some of their "cases" against others to be thrown out. And then there's Uncle Joe's public statement with cameras rolling and bragging about getting a prosecutor fired. Maté realizes that Biden is damaged goods and may not recover -- a horrible prospect for Democrats with NO centrist candidate in sight.

And then there's the Rolling Stone story entitled "The ‘Whistleblower’ Probably Isn’t" by Matt Taibbi.

Taibbi is no Trump ally either. Taibbi even goes so far as to make the statement that the gossipblower is just that and does not deserve a "whistleblower" status. Taibbi makes a historical reference to whistleblowers as being persecuted in the past by the federal government instead of being celebrated. Remember Obama and whistleblowers? Taibbi views this "guy" as nothing more than a pawn in a political battle. He's right.
Americans who’ve blown the whistle over serious offenses by the federal government either spend the rest of their lives overseas, like Edward Snowden, end up in jail, like Chelsea Manning, get arrested and ruined financially, like former NSA official Thomas Drake, have their homes raided by FBI like disabled NSA vet William Binney, or get charged with espionage like ex-CIA exposer-of-torture John Kiriakou. It’s an insult to all of these people, and the suffering they’ve weathered, to frame the ballcarrier in the Beltway’s latest partisan power contest as a whistleblower.
. . .
Actual whistleblowers are alone. The Ukraine complaint seems to be the work of a group of people, supported by significant institutional power, not only in the intelligence community, but in the Democratic Party and the commercial press.
This is an amazing revelation coming from Leftists, but they can't be REAL Leftists because they aren't willing to lie and obfuscate to achieve the goal. They aren't hypocrites. They see what has transpired in the past. They compare it to what's happening now, and they see the contrasts.

Given that Trump was quick enough to step in on behalf of his close personal rapper buddy. Will he now intervene in the case of the "no flight risk" diplomat's wife that flew off rather than face justice regarding her car crash that killed a teenager?

Since someone is putting so much trust in the WH's released version of the Ukraine transcript, this is worth a read.

Don't think it's really clear, if what the WH released is complete.

Do you think there will be a Movie??????

"Gordon Sondland, President Donald Trump's ambassador to the European Union, was scheduled to appear before a trio of committees Tuesday morning to answer questions about his role in pushing Ukraine's president to open investigations aimed at former Vice President Joe Biden.

But the State Department directed him not to cooperate with the probe, according to Sondland's attorney, Robert Luskin.:"

This event appears to me to be another significant President Trump achievement.

Trump Rids Major U.S. Container Port of Chinese Communist Control

Under a long-term deal sealed by the Obama administration, a Chinese Communist company was set to control the second-busiest container port in the United States. In an unreported Trump administration victory, the Communists are out after a drawn-out national security review forced a unit of China-based COSCO Shipping Holdings Co. (Orient Overseas Container Line—OOCL) to sell the cherished container terminal business, which handles among the largest freight of imports into the U.S.

It all started with a 40-year container terminal lease between the Port of Long Beach in southern California and Hong Kong. The Obama administration proudly signed the agreement in 2012 giving China control of America’s second-largest container port behind the nearby Port of Los Angeles. One of the Trump administration’s first big moves was to get the Communists out of the Port of Long Beach. After a national security review and federal intervention, the Long Beach terminal business, which handles millions of containers annually, is finally being sold to an Australian company called Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. That essentially kills China’s decades-long contract with the Obama administration.

The deal never should have been signed in the first place considering the facility’s size, significance and the national security issues associated with a hostile foreign government controlling it. The southern California port is the premier U.S. gateway for trans-Pacific trade, according to its website, and handles trade valued at more than $194 billion annually. It is one of the few ports that can accommodate the world’s largest vessels and serves 140 shipping lines with connections to 217 seaports around the world. The facility encompasses 3,200 acres with 31 miles of waterfront, 10 piers, 62 berths and 68 post-Panamax gantry cranes. In 2018, the Long Beach port handled more than 8 million container units, achieving the busiest year in its history.

Removing Chinese Communists from this essential port is a tremendous feat and a huge victory for U.S. national security. You’d never know it because the media, consumed with the impeachment debacle, has ignored this important achievement. The only coverage of the finalized transfer is found in Long Beach’s local newspaper, which published a brief article omitting important background information on the Trump administration’s work to take back the terminal from the Communists. The story makes it seem like a regular business transaction in which “a Chinese state-owned company, reached a deal to sell the terminal, one of the busiest in the port, for $1.78 billion.” The piece also quotes the Port of Long Beach’s deputy executive director saying that the transaction process was intricate and involved one of “our most valuable port assets.” Buried at the bottom of the article is a sentence mentioning that the U.S. government, which regulates mergers for antitrust and security reasons, stepped in and required COSCO to sell its rights to the container terminal.
