Trump plans to add $5.088 trillion to the debt in his first term. That's a 30 percent increase from the $20.245 trillion debt at the end of Obama's last budget for FY 2017. If he remains in office for a second term, he plans to add $9.1 trillion. Trump had promised to eliminate the debt during his campaign.

FY 2021 - $1.276 trillion.
FY 2020 - $1.281 trillion.
FY 2019 - $1.314 trillion.
FY 2018 - $1.217 trillion.

It certainly doesnt look eliminated to me and it is only getting BIGGER

Well, one candidate has dropped out the Dem 2020 race already. Swalwell. You won't miss him, and you probably didn't even know he was there in the first place. His big idea was gun confiscation.

Another candidate -- billionaire Tom Steyer -- seems poised to fill the empty slot. My hunch is that Steyer doesn't think anyone running can beat Trump. This should be interesting if he actually get in. He talked about it in January, and then didn't enter. Steyer wants to impeach Trump (another one) and doesn't think the economy is really doing that well. Good luck, Tom.

Super Patriot.jpg

This meme provides excellent examples of red herrings, straw men and ad hominem.

Red herring because this thread is about whether Trump is making the grade or not. It is not about identifying patriotism, and it identifies qualities that are unrelated to patriotism in the US in its real and true form. It does not reflect patriotism in the American and Conservative sense.

Straw man because it makes accusations that have never been part of the dialogue on this forum from those who promote patriotism. Hating all these groups of people? Nope. No way. It might be what the haters see in patriots, but there is no evidence to back it up. It's just "feelings" of the haters. Anyone who acts and feels the way things are described in that meme is not a true Patriot.

Ad hominem because it is both false and a personal attack on those who love their country and consider themselves to be patriots. 93% used as a measure? Foolish. Let's say then that at least 93% of the claims in that meme aren't based on anything factual. It's bullsh*t, and would be rejected by all real Patriots.

Hates Liberals? I don't see anyone hating Liberals, but I see much opposition to their methods and policies. And hating Moderates? No. Who hates Moderates? And hating Intellectuals? No. There is opposition to the elitist intellectuals for their philosophies that rarely work in the real world. I haven't seen anyone here hating them.

Hates Activists and Pacifists? Again, hates? No one said a damn thing about hating. It's about opposing the philosophy, not hating.

Hates Minority Groups? No. Where is the evidence of hate towards minorities? Hates Aliens? No. It's about the rule of law, enforcing the law, and the Constitution.

Hates Unions and Teenagers? Again, no. Where did this come from?

Hates the Very Rich and Very Poor? What the hell is that about? Who said that? Seems more like LIBs who hate the Very Rich and turn that into the actions of wanting to seize their assets to give to others -- just because they happen to be wealthy. That's real hate. I don't know anyone who hates the poor.

Hates people with foreign sounding names? Where? When?

This meme reminds me of the phony LIB argument against those who don't want taxpayers to pay for the health care of others: "Oh, so you want people to just die in the streets!" Yeah, it's like that.

Super Patriots are the opposite of everything listed in that meme. They are grounded in the three main tenets of the Founders and Framers:

Defend the Constitution - Promote Free Enterprise - Nurture Individual Liberty ... within those three tenets are the Bill of Rights which include equal rights, the rule of law, due process, free speech, equal opportunity, freedom to worship, voluntary charity, equal protection under the law, and efforts to uplift all boats instead of penalizing the most successful.

One thing is certain, Stantheman is still stung and clutching his pearls because he didn't know that "elitist" applies to more than people of wealth -- and he acts like he hates Trump and Patriots. So what?

Another milestone reached by the Trump Administration.

US Department of Agriculture announces that food stamp participation has dropped to its lowest level in 10 years.

Less than 36 million are on food stamps.

.

An interesting perspective from a political cartoonist who thought Trump was a clown, but now realizes that he's the right man for the job. Trump wasn't my candidate either. I voted for him over Hillary only because of Hillary's positions. I now support his efforts.

=====

Donald Trump is the president I didn’t want, but now I know we need
- Gary Varvel, Indianapolis Star

I admit that I was wrong about Trump. He's not a clown, and he is delivering on his promises.

Over the years, my caricatures of Donald Trump have evolved but not as much as my opinion of him.

When Trump announced he was running for president, I admit that I didn't take this millionaire, hotel magnate, reality TV show celebrity as a serious candidate. I doubted his ability to do the job. So I drew him as a clown. In fact, my cartoons were as critical of him as many of my liberal cartoonist friends.

Then Trump started a war with the news media, tagging major news outlets as “fake news.” Ahem, I'm in the media.

And while Trump promised to pursue conservative policies, this conservative cartoonist doubted his sincerity. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that he was on the left.

In the crowded primary field, Trump got the most attention by being the loudest. His tweets could not be ignored by the media and resulted in Trump dominating news coverage.

I found his personal attacks sophomoric. I mean, calling his opponents "Low-energy Jeb," "Lyin’ Ted," "Little Marco," "Crazy Bernie" and "Crooked Hillary" was not presidential. It was childish, but it worked. He won and they lost.

In this braggadocios “I’m the greatest” culture, Trump became the Muhammad Ali of politicians. His claims of, “I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created,” “I’m really rich,” “I’m very highly educated,” “I’m the best (fill in the blank)” stretched credulity but was certainly entertaining.

In one of the debates, Trump admitted that he was an entertainer but said that he was more than an entertainer, that he was "a businessman, and that's the kind of mindset this country needs to bring it back." Soon his rallies were filled with people who believed that he was the real hope and change America needed.

In 1992, millionaire businessman Ross Perot said that the country needed to be run like a business. He was great at listing the country’s problems, but he didn’t communicate how he would fix them.

Trump identified the problems and fixes. His political promises were simple, repeated often and easily remembered — build the wall, repeal and replace Obamacare, cut taxes, destroy the Islamic State group, renegotiate better trade deals and make America great again.

So how in the world did Trump change my mind? He started keeping those promises.

Trump is delivering on his promises
First, he picked Mike Pence as his running mate. As I’ve written before, I’ve known Pence for over 20 years and he has the conservative bona fides. So, of course, I supported this decision.

Then, after taking office, Trump began to reverse President Barack Obama's executive orders and burdensome regulations on businesses. He approved the Keystone XL pipeline. He cut taxes and the economy picked up steam. Again, I supported these decisions.

Sure, he failed to repeal Obamacare, but its individual mandate was repealed in the tax-cut bill.

As a Christian, I have been accused of hypocrisy and my faith has been questioned for not condemning Trump's past extramarital affairs, his language and treatment of women. Look, I know he is a deeply flawed man. So am I. The Bible says we all are. But evangelicals believe in grace and forgiveness and are commanded to pray for our leaders. So I support him in prayer.

Trump has proven to be pro-religious liberty, pro-life and pro-Israel. He moved the American embassy to Jerusalem, pulled out of the Paris climate agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and began negotiations to denuclearize North Korea. I support all of these policies.

There have been a few hiccups. Trump signed a budget bill that increased the national debt, which is now over $21 trillion. The Russia probe is still a cloud over his administration, and I don't like trade wars.

But here’s the dominating reason I’ve changed my mind about Trump's ability to lead: judges. I support his picks of Justice Neil Gorsuch, his new U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the host of conservative federal judges that Trump has gotten confirmed.

I shudder to think of the activist judges that a President Hillary Clinton would have picked.

In my opinion, Trump has had the most successful 18 months as president than any other I've ever drawn. So yes, I support his presidency.

I admit that I was wrong about Trump. He's not a clown. He's a businessman, entertainer, and now the president that I didn't want but now think we need.

Quite courageous to make a public statement like this.

A different political cartoonist (who is not deeply conservative and religious like Varvel), with a different view.

"Another change that has effected SNAP eligibility is the end of waivers that allowed people to keep looking for work past the three month deadline, if they couldn’t find jobs. A number of states have cancelled these waivers, which reduces the SNAP rolls without actually improving people’s lives.

SNAP participation has been declining steadily since a 2013 high, so while it is true that it continued to go down under President Trump, he can’t claim responsibility for a general trend that began under his predecessor’s administration."

Lets hear it for Obama who started the trend on Food Stamps usage

As for the last piece you spewed it certainly is a piece of work, the Christian stuff and all BUT the last sentence brought a tear to my eye, as I drove a steak knife through my hand to keep from laughing
"Quite courageous to make a public statement like this." Another indication of your state when delivering this one sided I wont call it crap as that would not go far enough.

Your lack of education prevents you from recognizing intelligent and original thought. You're entitled to your opinion, but it's better served baking.

My views and beliefs are consistent. They're mine, and I can always communicate and articulate my position -- what I am FOR -- which is more than I can say for the gaggle of members of which you belong. Example? "copy paste". Now that is real intelligence at work.
