Will Trump be criminally charged?

Post by Whistler » June 22, 2022, 8:48 pm

Watching the Jan 6 congressional review panel, the evidence produced seems damning. Had it been in almost any Developed nation, it would be reasonable grounds for criminal charges. I wonder if the same will happen in the USA.

If charges are laid, there will be a long lead time to build a case against an obstructive Trump, then empanel a Grand Jury, plenty of legal challenges to even get that far, then delaying tactics that will probably take years. It will almost certainly flow past the next 2024 Presidential election date, Trump is no spring chicken, the same goes for other alleged co-conspirators, a few of them may pop off this mortal coil before any trial can start.

The Republican party will go nuts, the loonies will rally/riot etc and he may get a pardon if the GOP wins in 2024.

The latest polls show nearly 60% of Americans think he should be charged. My guess, is he will never be brought to trial, what do others think?

He is rich, even though not as rich as he claims. He is American. He is now a politician. Therefore it’s very unlikely that he will ever be charged for the crimes he instigated. It’s also likely that the kids are as slippery as he is.

It didn’t take an inquiry to know what happened that day. No, he will never be charged.

I doubt Trump will be charged but the jerks who egged on his big lie claims might be. I hope so.

Look to America's history. Was Richard Nixon ever criminally charged?

To summarize, he dodged impeachment by resigning and before any federal prosecution could proceed, he was pardoned by Gerald Ford. This pardon specifically protected him from being prosecuted for any malfeasance while in office. In the meantime, 48 of the 96 people indicted during the Watergate investigation were prosecuted, many of whom served in Nixon's administration.

Deja vu again.

Well if he isn't charged, and is allowed to run again, and wins, then you can say goodbye to democracy in the US.

Trolls don't do substance. If Giggle had any brains he would understand that this is not so much about Trump as the American system.

Trump was never a fading star, he is a tarnished star. However, I doubt if he will ever be a rising star again.

He is the most prominent member of the Republican party, he dominates world headlines and remains the most divisive figure in American history.

As I stated in an earlier post, this thread is about the system, not Trump.

You may have missed it Uncle - he has been in the news a bit lately.

Not major stuff, mind you - just garden variety trying to subvert democracy in his own country.

And stealing from his deplorable cult followers.

Having said that can not see anyone in the GOP with enough pull/guts, charisma to remove him, he will be a pain until he fades away permanently . De sazntis is an idiot so he is NO threat to the orange Blob

"And stealing from his deplorable cult followers."

Question Jack ............ what's the difference between Trump "stealing" from his cult followers by them making "donations", and the Church "stealing" from its cult followers by them making "donations"

Strikes me that Trump is only cashing in the same as the Church has been doing for hundreds of years :-k

It is true, I try to avoid any news items about Trump, and I realise the case against him is strong. I wish he would fade away into oblivion.
