Perhaps our nautical types could let us know If the plastic Naval Captain still in the race?
Re: General Discussion of UK Politics
Healthier than some? At least the UK's PM getting caught with his metaphorical 'hand in the cookie jar' can get the heave-ho. There are checks and balances, albeit some being hastily promulgated or rescinded if/when it suits the incumbent government (like right now). Despite others opining that the Brits may be 'winging it', the UK is blessed with it's great, unwritten constitution so it never gets totally, mind-numbingly boring.

The wren? She was a reservist wasn't she? A bit like Tugendhat? A territorial that saw a bit of foreign action?stattointhailand wrote: ↑July 16, 2022, 3:54 pmPerhaps our nautical types could let us know If the plastic Naval Captain still in the race?

I'm just watching the Prime Ministerial hopefuls on an ITV debate and I'm reminded of a Lord Sugar Apprentice episode.

Re: General Discussion of UK Politics
So we are down to 3 - Slimy Sunak, Moronic Liz and Penny (not sure about her). Sunak is dependent on his wife's Indian money, and will use his green card if he gets miffed; My son knows a few people who work(ed) under Liz, and were appalled at her utter incompetence when presiding over trade negotiations ( e.g. Australia asked for a number of concessions, and she just said ok, no negotiation, Just wanted to tick the box - done. Her civil servants planned counter offers were just ignored by her). Penny - a bit of a blank sheet, well she is a bit more attractive than the other 2......

Yes, agreed, if she had anything between her ears she might have been dangerous. Only problem is, the british public has shown time and again they are not voting for who would be the best for the country, but more who (HAS SAID) they will do the best for me/myself/I ............... and they are then shocked when they do nothing they promised ...... AGAIN !!!
Re: General Discussion of UK Politics
Since when has the British public voted specifically for their PM? They vote for whoever the political party membership have decided will be THEIR PM.stattointhailand wrote: ↑July 20, 2022, 8:33 pmYes, agreed, if she had anything between her ears she might have been dangerous. On the other hand, if you are saying that Britain's great unwashed aren't reading the small print at election time, you are spot on.

As expected, it will be the glossy Sunak versus the wooden Truss.

Ashamed to be English since 23rd June 2016 when England voted for racism & economic suicide.
Disgusted that the UK is “governed” by a squalid bunch of economically illiterate, self-serving, sleazy and corrupt neo-fascists.

From an opinion piece on the recent mini-budget, this line jumped out at me:

Having shot itself in both feet with Brexit, sorry old England is moving on to knee-capping.

Excellent interview which gives a "push back" to many of the Murdock media lies.
