Sounds like the UK's council elections may have been a bit of a damp squib when it comes to "shocking indictments of the Tories under Johnson" and other such media froth.

Some places are reporting voter turnout of less than 30%. To put that in context, Scotland was denied independence after a show of twice that amount in the 1979 independence referendum. Gurn over.

Labour didn't get anywhere near scratching the "blue wall" either. This despite their leader pulling a starfish in his own "beer and curry work night" fiasco, choosing to shelter under the dubious wing of the Durham cops issuing a(nother) "no cause" derelection of duty. They famously chose not to interview Dominic Cummings due to "his character" after the Specsavers Affair so we must assume Starfi...sorry, Starmer holds the same status of being untouchable.

A new wave of apathy grips the nation. This happens after lengthy periods of Tory rule.

How peculiar - party, party and apathy. These Romans, I mean Britons, are crazy.

I read one opinion writer in Alexo's unfavoured newspaper tossing in a line that Starmer might resign if he's fined. That's the writer who calls the UK's Prime Minister "The Convict".

My earlier comment was based on live, early reports. Now that the dishes are done in England, the overall picture is of Conservative losses. No commensurate big gain for Labour with the LD and Greens getting wins. An indictment of sorts so lets see how the Tories circle the wagons. Pushing Durham cops into re-investigating Starmer's beer and curry is not even close to a nail in the coffin event.

Not so much partygate but discontent about the cost of living it seems. The Chancellor ramrodding the NI contributions with little sweeteners offered elsewhere hasn't helped. Losing inner-London councils is quite telling with a degree of Bloris fatigue showing.

Scotland just bolstered the bloody SNP, proof-positive that sheep vote. I need to dig deeper to see if Labour made any progress. The Tories remain in the Scottish wilderness.

Northern Ireland looks like returning the first ever Sinn Fein majority. However, the recalcitrant Unionists have already said that despite it being a cornerstone of the peace accords, in party politics and government, power sharing as second fiddle isn't an option. Probably hoping that the Tories will further implode under Bloris and they will need to get the DUP liferaft back from Theresa May.

The late Reverend Ian Paisley will be spinning like a top.

The Labour Party regaining a foothold in Scotland is the key to securing a majority in Westminster at the next general election and obviously reducing Wee Jimmy Krankie's grip on the Scottish parliament. I'm not sure how Labour lost that influence in 2010 but it needs to be recovered.

Sinn Fein was going to win an election some time this decade - simple demographics, there are more Catholics than Protestants, have been for a few years. As they get old enough to vote, those DUP majorities have been steadily eroding.

But by blocking the nomination of Speaker, the DUP aren't planning on going anywhere easily.

DUP blocks new Northern Ireland Assembly over Brexit Protocol

The DUP will block the appointment of a speaker to the Stormont Assembly, which will stop it from working after recent elections, because of its opposition to the post Brexit Northern Ireland Protocol.

A bit like Neil Parish, the 'tractor porn' British ex-MP.

Former MP Neil Parish could stand in by-election triggered by own resignation

But you're not gone yet are you Neil? You and the toxic DUP.

I would still consider voting for Parish if I was an elector in his electorate. He'd need to have been more naughty for me to completely write him off.

I have written off Rooney and Vardy. Total nutters.

There are quite a few Muslims in the House, Cali.

The Neil Parish issue: agreed he stuck his hands up and apologised but there's a larger problem in Parliament in terms of how the MPs and Lords act, even the Speakers when you think of John Bercow. They don't set a good example to the rest of us commoners.

Parish 'stuck his hand up and apologized' well after he had said, "I don't think there's necessarily a huge culture here, but I think it does have to be dealt with and dealt with seriously." on GB News. This was a couple of days before they removed the whip because it was HIM.

The only difference between him and the rest of the Tory wankfest is he forgot to say 'deeply' in his groveling apology.

Bercow's history thank God. Now we need to see how Sir Lindsay Hoyle fairs but I can already see that after an impressive start, he's becoming less visible and more toe the line. Maybe he's dreaming of the red benches.

A university has said it “does not condone any form of defacement” after one of its staff was pictured throwing an egg at a 6-metre (20ft) bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher.

The controversial £300,000 statue was installed in Grantham, Thatcher’s home town, without ceremony over the weekend. Opponents had warned that egg-throwing was “absolutely inevitable” given how divisive a figure Thatcher remains ...

It had been hoped it might be erected in Parliament Square, London. After Westminster council turned the proposal down, it was offered to Grantham and work to achieve that was spearheaded by Grantham Community Heritage Association (GCHA), the educational charity that manages the museum.

Two CCTV cameras had been installed around the memorial to help combat any threats of vandalism, South Kesteven council said.

People need to lighten up a bit. It's only a statue.

"A council planning document suggested the proposed statue of Lady Thatcher - who died in 2013 - had also come too soon after her death."

most would agree with that ..... we would all have been far better off had she died 40 years earlier
