That's the Bhumjaithai Party membership's vaccinations all accounted for then. How nice and cosy.

I dont read squiggly but Dao telling me on local social media reports of a family of 9 infected ppl in Amphur Phen one of which was attending a party and decided to go to Central for a face massage on the 4th floor .. now all in contact being checked with results expected tomorrow .. a POSSIBLE cluster or spike in Udon is certainly not needed as things were improving here day by day.

The Tokyo Medical Practitioners’ Association, a 6,000-member body, sent a letter to Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike and organizing committee head Seiko Hashimoto urging them to call off the games over safety concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

An interesting twist on vaccine effectiveness from the Seychelles.

"Despite this, there has been a recent surge in cases, with 37 per cent of new active cases and 20 per cent of hospital cases being fully vaccinated. The country has had to reimpose some restrictions."

Bang Sue Grand Station will open as a mass vaccination center in June and while no appointment will be needed, a national ID card will.
Prior to the July opening of the gargantuan transportation hub, the station will offer 10,000 shots per day to anyone who can present a Thai ID card, according to Transportation Minister Saksayam Chidchob. The walk-in service will be available from 9am to 8pm every day starting June 1 through the end of the year.

Good read there, thanks bd. A couple of the items on the 5-point list of reasons make sense and another couple are wildly speculative, even scaremongerish. But completely missing from the list is the root cause. AFAIK the Seychelles are open to tourism with only the need to be pre-vaccinated or PCR tested 72-hours prior to arrival as a filter but without the need for observational quarantine and re-testing after they arrive. They get off the plane and go straight into the local community, a community where 15% of the locals are directly employed in the tourist sector. Last month, their government was announcing plans for a new long-stay permit (1-year) aimed at the growing numbers of foreigners who are working from home due to the pandemic or the 'workation'. They can bring the whole family too if they wish.

In the meantime, the Seychelles government has placed restrictions on certain nationalities or people traveling from those countries namely South Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Brazil, aka "the usual suspects". Once again the naming of a variant of concern after the country where the in-depth genomic breakdown first identified it, or was identified in an infected person traveling from that country, is being incorrectly used by a government bereft of any idea of why they are so named and ignorant of how Covid basically spreads. I think the WHO have recently (and IMHO belatedly) proscribed labeling variants by country or nationality. Let's see how much traction that gets.

So, how does the latest, most infectious variant turn up on an island over 800 miles from land? It simply flew in (and we're not talking seagulls here) or sailed in. There's a whole community of liveaboard world cruisers that, while getting away from it all, are openly encouraged to visit all sorts of remote island places.

Phuket better watch out.

My kiwi mate signed up on this one last week. He checks regularly for others and will sign up on them when they become available. Sort of carpet-bombing all options and will take the first one that actually invites him and his family in. Not sure if I agree with that approach as without an option to cancel a reservation, the others will go through the motions of contacting him for no reason. However, like myself he's lived and worked in Thailand for the best part of 30 years so I can appreciate him not having all his eggs in the same basket.

Although some of the results from the Seychelles seem disappointing, when you actually crunch the figures when compared to vaccinated/unvaccinated populations, unvaccinated people in the Seychelles are 4 time as likely to become infected, and 6 times more likely to die.

Chinese govt begins vaccinating its citizens living in Thailand.
A vaccination program for the Chinese has begun in Bangkok.
The Sinovac vaccine - 500,000 doses in the first lot in total - is being used.
A total of 100,000 Chinese living in Thailand who are registered with the Chinese embassy will be getting priority over everyone else.
Others will be Thais students or officials who are planning to travel to China.

Looks like the Indian variant has just hit Bangkok with 15 construction workers infected with it.
(Reuters) - Thailand has detected its first 15 domestically transmitted cases of the highly infectious COVID-19 variant first found in India, the country's coronavirus taskforce said on Friday.

Where's the deception?

The Thaiger article doesn't say all foreigners, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Natapanu Nopakun is quoted as saying, "No one is safe in Thailand until everyone is safe, until everyone is vaccinated.”

The groups listed pretty much covers every foreigner legitimately in the country except digital pikeys, YouTubers, bloggers, social media influencers and other layabouts on Covid extensions. The Phuket tourists in July (both of them) will have been vaccinated before they get here.
