One of the comments in the link is quite right to ponder what will happen to the BKKUD hospital Moderna roll out .. thousands of pre payers (circa 9000) charged 3800 which should of been 3400 and now not even sure the Moderna will arrive at all..

With the subtle difference that BKKUD and maybe half-a-dozen private other hospitals that took pre-payment with a receipt aren't criminals. People who paid in advance should have faith in the investment they have just made in their safe and healthy future.

Why are those who didn't book a vaccine with them and never had any intention of ever doing so making such a fuss anyway? It's not as if they don't live there or are only here on vacation or have plans to leave any time soon.

Of course only those who have (over) pre paid at the BKKUD or any other private hospital can and should make a fuss after a lengthy period of having faith .. it states non refundable only transferable ..but if the Moderna vaccines dont arrive surely there must be a refund .. the hospital stated they needed pre payment to buy the vaccines which obviously they havent done so a cool 34 mil bt sat in the bank.

The BKKUD were keen to bombard anyone requesting Moderna details with sales emails and phone calls pushing the a 15th June deadline to pay .......... but now dont respond to any emails asking for an update.

Wait and see what October brings ??

Thai doctors’ group submits petition to Parliament calling for mRNA vaccines

A group of doctors, who call themselves “Mor Mai Thon” (Doctors won’t take it anymore) submitted its petition, bearing 215,409 signatures collected on change.org, to Thailand’s House of Representatives today (Wednesday), calling for mRNA vaccines to be the main type administered in Thailand for free, as well as for transparency in the government procurement processes.

Chula has a mRNA vaccine. It was developed last year but lacked manufacturing capabilities to start trials. Trials have just now started. It's a pity this vaccine, ChulaCov19, did not receive any support from the government.

The Government Pharmaceutical Organization abruptly submitted a draft purchase contract for the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to the Office of Attorney General after the latter publicly stated it never received the contract.

Whatever they end up doing or how ever many doses they actually buy, does not look like happening anytime soon. Reuter's are reporting end of 2021 before the first batch of Moderna will arrive? So the Moderna vaccine component, will not have any impact on the next 5 or so months of this year.

The same Reuter's report, says, that Thailand has ordered 5 Million doses of J & J and 20 Million doses of Pfizer, but doesn't give any anticipated dates of arrival for either of these two vaccines. Plus 150 Million doses of Sinovac.

BANGKOK, June 30 (Reuters) - Thailand said on Wednesday it would import nearly four million doses of Moderna's (MRNA.O) mRNA coronavirus vaccine towards the end of this year and a further one million in early 2022, for use by private hospitals. The Government Pharmaceutical Organization in a statement said 3.9 million doses of the Moderna vaccine would be delivered in the fourth quarter and 1.1 million doses in the first quarter of 2022.

Thailand has also ordered five million doses of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) vaccines and 20 million doses of the mRNA vaccine developed by Pfizer (PFE.N) and BioNTech (22UAy.DE)

It doesn't look promising for Thailand in the second half of this year, with only 11.8% having received their first dose and only 4.4% having been fully vaccinated at this time and Thailand apparently struggling to secure the Moderna and or Pfizer does in an real quantity, this side of December 2021. Even though the number of doses from J & J, Moderna and or Pfizer was not the most significant, in the overall total Vaccine Does numbers, needed for some 55.0 Million over the age of 20.

This can only make their target of reaching a that percentage of population vaccinated a little bit more difficult, before opening up the Country,as a whole to tourism again. Unless of course the TG is relying solely on the 150 Million doses from Sinovac.

Looks like most of those who want to be vaccinated this side of December in Thailand, will need to opt for Sinovac.

They have stated it could be similar to those in 2020.

I would not be surprised if Udon is included in the High risk provinces due to having the 3rd highest number of cases of the Delta variety after Bangkok and Nonthaburi (Indian strain).

Even if they are not included maybe the Governor will impose further restrictions if the number of cases remains high.

With daily infection rates broaching 8000, the Malaysians kicked of a 2-week nationwide lockdown on 1st June. The numbers started falling but the lockdown was extended for another 2 weeks. Around the time they set a target of infection rates falling below 4000 for easing restrictions, the rates started going up again and are back around 7000/day again. This is with total lockdown, not a partial, soft one 'like' the 2020 lockdown in Thailand. This is with barbed wire around Covid ghettos, police checkpoints on highways and fines equating to 38,000 baht for any violations.

Indonesia has gone from around 5000/day a month ago to nearly 35000/day now.

Vietnam has gone from single-digit daily infections in late April to over 1000/day, the worst increase of the lot.

All three countries have a poor vaccine procurement plan (Vietnam had none) and a slow or limited roll out for those that have vaccines.

The Delta variant doesn't worry about lockdowns, it is too busy seeking out those who haven't been vaccinated yet and in SE Asia, that's most people. The UK is seeing day-on-day increases in infections and they have one of the highest single/double vaccinated populations on the planet. With previous variants, there was a lot or leeway on what constituted non-essential travel and people were largely left to decide for themselves. Maybe this time they need to be told.
