Ole Deklan is on a roll. He must think that armor he boasts about is spear proof. Free Medicare in the USA he thinks. I guess he doesn't realize workers paid into that system their entire career. Then they retire and to use their free Medicare they pay a monthly premium. All this ads to up roughly 80% of their healthcare costs. The other 20 is out of pocket or paid from another private insurance fund. One thinks he knows should learn the word research.
Who's the silly one now??
Oh, you are still silly. ladda did not get you off the hook for your comments.

What I mentioned was Medicaid. ladda is describing Medicare. He is correct in his description of Medicare, but he misread what I stated.

My comment:
PS - I believe the US has free health care under Medicaid for those less fortunate. I know that some states also have something similar that citizens of the state finance through state taxes.

Education is Power.

PS - The Armor of God is at least ladda proof.

Silly me. I misread theklan. One final point before I go. Medicaid is also not FREE. Taxpayers pay for it. Nothing in this world is FREE. I am intimately aware of a young man who died from colon cancer. Spent 3 years slowly dying. Medicaid paid large amounts but people close to him paid for many things not covered by Medicaid.

gee. previous projected allotments for the American donated Pfizer that arrived in Thailand today, Friday morning the 30th of July were:
Pfizer allocations.jpg
Here's the latest BKK Post story on the arrival of the vaccine today with.. other information:
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ses-arrive

Note this one that seems to say nothing about an expats getting a jab although I guess the 150,000 allocation for the "elderly" could apply to many expats:

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha extended his gratitude to the US for the vaccine donation at a time when Thailand was facing a Covid-19 crisis. The doses would be administered only to frontline medical workers and targeted groups of people, not to VIPs, Ms Traisuree said.

She said 700,000 doses will be used for third, booster jabs for medical workers who treat Covid-19 patients nationwide; 645,000 doses for Thai people for whom a Covid-19 infection could be fatal; 150,000 doses for elderly people, patients with any of seven chronic illnesses, pregnant women at least 12 weeks into term; people who leave for countries that require inoculation with the Pfizer vaccine, including diplomats and students; 5,000 doses for research; and 40,000 doses kept in reserve to cope with viral mutations.

In the US, COVID-19 hospitalizations peaked in January at around 130,000. These people received care in and around dozens of major American cities which helped hospitals cope.

As reported today, Thailand is at 192,526 and these people are pretty well concentrated in Bangkok.

Bearing in mind you have to adjust for population size ie. US has nearly 5 times as many people, how on earth is this possible?

Population adjusted, Thailand is caring for something like 7-8 times as many patients and in one metropolitan area.

Possibly the US figures were adjusted to suit the needs of those using them?

Maybe. But after looking into it more, I think lots of these people are in a "green" group meaning they isolate at home and are treated by private clinics at their homes. Also, Bangkok sleeper trains are being used for those waiting for a bed, all sorts of field hospitals, etc. Next month could be pandemonium.

At the peak of the pandemic in the USA 112,6/100,000 were hospitalized This eqials 377,241 people hospitalized and not the 130,000 you have quoted

Or like the UK when they wanted to show a reduction in pos cases they reduced the amount they were testing, thus not recording the true number of cases, and coz its all looking rosey we can open up

Hi Doodoo. I went to your link. I switched it to male/female instead of the confusing age brackets. Add males and females together and the peak was 41 per 100,000. Approx 330 million population means about 135,000 at the January peak. This is figure pretty much matches what I was working with.
covid tracking.jpg
See the attached charts from the Covid Tracking Project. Basically I think the definition of a hospitalization is different for US vs Thailand. Who knows!

OK
Go to ths on January 9 2021 This is for ALLmales and Females_

ages 0-4 1.9 per 100,000
ages 5-17 1.3
ages 18-49 9,6
ages 50 - 64 28.2
ages 65+ 71.6 (I dont know what was/is so confusing about this but )

Add these up and you get 112.6 per 100,000 THe USA Population is 335,028,000 Therefore population divided by 100,000 is 3350 x 112.6= 377210 in Hosptal January9 2021

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Doodoo. But how do you account for the discrepancy between the age data set and the male/female data set using your source? You just want to go by a distorted interpretation of that data and disregard the other data set? I say confusing because one must interpret the data based on age correctly and you aren't.

If you care to wager on who is right, do let me know.

You won't find a single news article that puts hospitalizations in January anywhere near 377,000. I followed the pandemic in the US very closely. It's around 130,000-140,000. I don't know where you're from but they only hospitalize people in the US who really need it, whereas Thailand literally requires you to be a patient. Again, do let me know!

I could tell why you are misinterpreting the data if you'd like. Also, we can still wager if you'd like. Heck, I'm willing to give you and semperfiguy a basic statistics course! But seriously, I'm in Udon. We can meet anywhere inside ring road. Bring cash.

Of course taxpayers pay for it. The government gets their money from citizens or the government prints it; but the ones receiving the health care do not pay.

Condolences for the loss of your friend/acquaintance to colon cancer. Unfortunately, government health care proves over and over again that they cannot do the job better than an individual taking care of their own health choices.

Have a great weekend.

Glad to see US embassy just announced "it is here for the Thai people" after delivering 1.5 million doses of vaccine, but nothing about helping any US citizens here needing vaccination..screw them...

I watched the news conference and the US guy did state ..quote ..

""the vaccines we are giving Thailand have no strings attached and the Thai government has assured us they will be dispersed fairly .. both the USA and Thailand agree EVERYONE living in Thailand should be vaccinated REGARDLESS OF NATIONALITY...."" end quote

so whilst appearing to be doing the right thing YES it seems there isnt any special circumstances in which US citizens residing here will get first dabs on the US donated jabs.. unlike the French governments recent efforts making sure their citizens got the vaccine...and exactly what classes as dispersed fairly is open to conjecture.

Its a case of wait n see how things pan out .in the mean time remain vigilant and hopefully safe.

MEMBERS QUESTION .. if you were offered the first vaccine today / now and it was SINOVAC would you take it ??

No, but a friend has had his 1st at the Ban Dung Hospital with AZ promised in 2 months as the 2nd, even though he has paid his 3800 Baht for Moderna.
