New extension of amnesty to September 26

I thought they went to great lengths to explain why this is not an extension of the amnesty.

The last edict was heavy on "stranded" foreigners having to do bugger all to stay here longer so as not to clutter up immigration offices and reduce the chance of community transmission.

The RTP Immigration department made a noise last Friday about recommending the end of amnesty on 31 July and 'grace' period from 1 Aug to 26 Sep where visitors would need to formalize their right to stay longer term.

The PM's formal announcement later today will indicate that the NCS, CCSA and cabinet decided against RTP Immigration's advice and the amnesty rolls ever on.

I guess Immigration's plan would have been mostly unworkable since CAAT haven't hinted at any normalization of commercial air travel that would have allowed "stranded" foreigners to leave easily.
