We are really getting some new posters who have no idea about propriety on a public forum, judging by their choice of user names. It must be obvious to admin that people who choose this titles for themselves are not going to make worthwhile contributions to our discussions. Can't we have a little more decorum please.

I think that is a very valid opinion for a public site. This is my first post since becoming a member although I have been reading the forum as a guest since last Autumn and have been surprised at some of the "handles" members choose, let alone some of the postings!

Humour is good, but keep within saucy, seaside postcard bounds is my advice.

Having said that I have found it very informative and useful in general and have gained much insight and local knowledge prior to my visit to Udon in the last week of this month. Keep up the good work.

Welcome Julian to Udonmap.com, nice to see someone from where my ancestors originated from, Stratford-upon-Avon, England. You wouldn't know of any Barnards in that area???? :-k

Val has made a good comment. Some of the names are quite obvious that thier intentions are not contribute. I have members of other sites where if you use the "jfdlkjwie" or "11111", they would not be able to registure on the site. There are others using obvious names to depict what product they are trying to spam. The monitors have been doing an excilent jop of keeping spamming down "NILL". Maybe we to start filtering the screen names also or is that already being done?

Welcome there may be some thing not exactly as we would like, but keep in mind if you have thoughts of Udon there is no better place to get information about this community. So and I know this can be very hard participate where you want and ignore the rest.

Even if you don't post and I hope you do monitor things and learn as much a you can.

As a new member myself I would like to add my two penneth. Surely the idea of filtering out non-posters is a rather harsh idea Prenders88, some people may not have the confidence to post on a public forum but the information provided is as useful to them as it is to the Bangkok Butcher. I do not believe that whether one posts on the forum or not is an appropriate condition for forum membership.

The forum is a valuable source of information about Udon and being a member gives you the advantage of the immediate new post icon which saves much time in reviewing what is newly posted since your last visit to the site.

Unfortunately, if posting were to be a requirement of forum membership it would inevitably add to some of the inane and unfortunate drivel that occasionally does get posted :(

As the number of members continues to increase the quality of a post (IMHO) is more desirable than the quantity of them - regrettably this is not reflected by the membership icons where it appears that size matters

Returning to the original topic, some usernames are

User names can sometimes be misunderstood also, when I first signed up on this forum after about a day I noticed that my screen name could easily be taken to mean something other than what I wanted to say, hence the qualification as to short time till I retire. Since I have been a member of this forum on more than a few times other members have provided valuable insight, directions and information that I simply could not have gotten elsewhere. This even though I am not a prolific poster. Simply put while I understand the concerns about some of the members about new posters I think you must allow them to show their true colors and if they are less than desireable then the moderators can take what actions are necessary to remove them. Of course this is just my opinion, one voice in many.
short time as in short time till I can retire

Jimbo, do you really believe size is not an issue? lol IMHO a large Chang is of far more use than that of its little brother!

That's a little harsh I think, some members may prefer to read rather that contribute, but enjoy the benefits of the new post icons and access to certain areas. Some members have been registered for over a year before making their first post.
There are however a lot of spammers slipping through lately, and as of yet, I haven

Lee as a guy who walked away for awhile, I finally came to the conclusion that the benefits derived far out weigh the down side.

I don't think you can completly stop the problems and at this junctiure my feelings are that you and the mod\erators are doing the best you can. Being a mod is not something I would care to be involved in, you can not be right no matter what someone is going to disagree with the action taken.

There seems to be on average 8 new people a day joining, some are obviously joining to promote a web site and get free advertising, but i see all their sites have been deleted. So maybe others will get the message.
One thing i have noticed is that even with an approx of say 50 ish regular posters out of 1050, there always seems to be some thing going on,and more and more useful info and interesting facts surface, plus the usual light banter and chit-chat, so i would say thats pretty good going,.. and once again i will say what a very enjoyable forum.. :)

I think you do a good job.I don't like to see to many restrictions as the members can choose to participate in a post or not.Actions to keep it as spam free are always appreciated.Diverse topics should be allowed and even heated debates because they are interesting and say alot about the partcipants. If the forum is confined to only Udon happenings,it will,IMO,limit the amount of postings. If you feel someone is being very and/or consistently inappropiate,PM them as a warning, then ..............................
