Cali, I thought they were Sheilas in Australia. Karens are a U.S. equivalent.

I read, with an approving nod, this comment from an opinion piece in today's Guardian.

"He" is our newly elected PM. You can figure out for yourself who the carnival barker is.
He may not be the best public speaker, but I'll take his honesty and clear explanations, over the now thankfully deposed carnival barker and his shonky snake oil salesman's pitch and sneering distain, division and lies.

I see Australia's relationships with other countries are on the mend or at least receiving some more considered attention. The Morrison government seems to have been a crappy representative of Australian interests abroad. It wasn't just Macron who had issues with Australia.

Spud Dutton copping it from all and sundry over his loose lips sink subs comments in recent days. Septics bagging him, Poms bagging him, former conservative PM bagging him and the current government pointing out his stupidity. McGowan was right to question the intelligence of the leader of the opposition.

"The more the Americans hear senior Australians talk about the possibility of getting them in five years' time or in 10 years' time, the more people in the American system scratch their heads and ask themselves whether they're dealing with a country that seriously understands the depth of the challenge," he said.

"It's a long shot to think that we'll get nuclear-powered submarines from the Americans by 2030."

Peter Dutton, what a train wreck. Even Turnbull is having a go at him. Dutton isn't sophisticated enough to be the Liberal leader.

Yes, this thread is currently dominated by leftie perspectives. Once the Libs have rolled Dutton and Labor has been in office for a year or two, there will be some ammo to fire at Labor.

Nowadays the former Saint Cindy is taking some hits almost every day.

With only one more senate seat to be decided, the Senate looks to be quite nicely balanced

Here's how the Senate's 76 seats are divided up:

Coalition – 32
Labor – 26
Greens – 12
One Nation – two
Jacqui Lambie Network – two
David Pocock – one
The final seat in Victoria between the Liberals and the United Australia Party is too close to call.

Assuming Labor and the Greens will vote as a block on most issues. The UAP, and One Nation influence has been hugely diluted. Probably the most workable Senate in decades from Albo's point of view.

Bring on a Federal ICAC, hopefully, fewer of the rorts that we have seen for the past several years as the government of the day is finally accountable to an independent body.

Is Morrison going to misbehave like Rudd or Abbott? Hopefully not.

Penny Wong continues to get around. She was in Wellington yesterday.

Yes, double standards abound, taking only a few weeks past the election of the Labour/Greens Government. Albanese was relentless in accusing Scott Morrison of secrecy.. It is truly amazing, l didn't realise Albanese was a gymnast in a former life.
In opposition, after having his own FOI requests denied, Albanese told Guardian Australia the decision to block his request was “extraordinary” and warned that the prime minister’s department was “not above the law”.

“Mr Morrison’s obsession with secrecy has undermined the law that protects all Australians’ right to know and, if left unchecked, threatens other fundamental rights,” he said in December.
Oh Buddha, low quality candidates can still get elected. Well, they can in Queensland. I suppose she'll give pepesgrill some ammo and keep sport happy.
