Forum Statistics

Post by jackspratt » April 10, 2020, 10:17 am

Paul it would be interesting to know the traffic stats (views, posts, etc) for the forum since the CV-19 crisis started to occupy most of our days.

Do you have these?

Cheers

The server or connection has clearly been significantly overloaded at times.

Hi, -- interesting question. Just went on Google Analytics to get stats.

In case you're not familiar with Google Analytics, it knows far too much about all of us. I understand how it gets the information, but it does leave me a bit uncomfortable.

I looked at website hits by English speakers, Udon Map's primary target audience. Looking at people whose first language is categorized by Google as U.S. English, website traffic between January 1st and April 9th is up 45.61% over the same period in 2019.

Looking at all English speakers (i.e., including people originally from the U.K., Australia, Canada and people whom Google has identified as English speakers but for whom it hasn't identified a country of origin), website traffic from this group is up 35.38% over the same period (January 1 through April 9) in 2019.

There's no way that I know of to look back at numbers of users and posts at a prior point in time. There's probably a query which one could write to look at the raw SQL data and count the number of posts; but I don't see any way to look at number of users. And I don't know SQL. I barely know what it does.

I was actually tracking forum statistics during December, 2018 and January, 2019. So while it's not scientific, and is from over a year ago....

Number of posts per day (measured by SQL as the immediately preceding 24 hours): Average of 89.5 then, 223 just now.

Users online during the immediately preceding 100 minutes: Average of 85.8 then, 689 just now.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks Paul - interesting reading, and as expected - both the stats, and the following posts.

I reckon that in the next couple of months it would be educational to graph some of the forum stats, probably through Google Analytics I guess.
