Songkran 2010 what are your plans?

Post by Thai_1_On » March 25, 2010, 9:56 pm

Greetings one and all and that wonderful time of year is again drawing near. I know Songkran is a love it or hate it holiday for those of us that call LOS home. There are a few hardy souls that come for the holiday and I applaud them =D> .

As for me I am thinking of a slight change from last year. I found by the second day of madness of riding around in the back of the family pick-up giving as well as getting I don't have the stamina I once had. So I'm thinking of "camping" at the 652 and taking a cue from Rito and being a "zapper". I anticipate loud falang music, lovely ladies, ice cold drinks, and a never ending stream of Songkran victims ;)

It's going to be so good to be back in Udon for Songkran. Same battle cry as last year.

Let the madness begin :drunk:

I will be indoors having a World of Warcraft marathon with the family and friends abroad.

Like others, I delighted in the chaos in years past, but eventually one rues the day the water cannons and medicated talcum powder were invented. No thank you, sir. I will be dispatching virtual ghouls, demons, and beasts in the dungeons and continents of Azeroth with occassional bio-breaks.

Visiting my Mum in Runaway Bay, Gold Coast. Said Brisbane as a generalization!

As Knondahm put it:- Songkhran wears a bit thin after being through many of them.

For the past couple of years I've gone to Bangkok during Songkran. It's easy to get around in a taxi; no traffic jams. All the major shopping and entertainment areas are light populated, and there is very little water throwing in most parts of the city. Much of the population has returned to their hometowns.

Well then once I'm in town next week would you like a good game of D&D. I'll have the core books and even better 6 full sets of dice for dispatching all the baddies I'll be throwing at you.

Hi,

I would recommend that most of you stay away from Nong Bua Baan. We have a central Wat havin a tambon for 3 or 4 days directly after Song Kran. That gives us one whole week of water with believe it or not day 7 being the biggest. Luckily I am a big kid at heart and with a 4 1/2 year old it helps.

Luv it

Last year OT forgot it was sonkran and took the motorbike down the big c. I returned home drenched and covered from top to toe with white cement. So, this year i'm getting a water canon fixed to the bed of the 4x4 that mixes water, ice and white cement altogether as ammunition. The trigger will be in my locked cab.

OT.......inventive and out in front.. \:D/

I'll be out front of my shop all through SongKhron......14th April, friends and family are invited to join in the fun. If you do come please bring a dish of food to share, will have lots to eat that way. It was suggested because we have had a lot of fun here. Thum and Au 2 doors down will be selling beer or bring your own. Please let me know a head of time. Either on the forum or email me and let know what food dish you are bringing......trying to keep down too much of one type of food. Now I have to get sour cream to make onion dip. :)

Whilst speaking to the mrs who is on the back of a pick up together with the kids and playing sonkran inside udon, the phone went dead so I assume she got a bucket of ice and water launched at her during the conversation, let's hope the phone survives.

OT......... \:D/

Yes, by the time Songkran is over, I suspect there will be a need for a number of new telephones (real or perceived)! ;)

Being on the countyside in Issan Sonkran seems to be quite peacefull.

Image

As it is never to late to take a shower I shouldn't avoid the streets.

Image

Children are happy, the girls charming and the drunken boys a bit gluey.

Image

For me, staying at home is not an option - even I am to old, as Homer Simpson says.

Image

But also spiritual-turned man are allowed to play on Sonkran.

In spite of all charme I am happy as well when the music's over, as the doors sing.

even if it is just, to turn out the light.

Some good action pics there Michaleo. :D

My lot won't even walk in the garden when the sun is out, and declined an offer to go to Phuket (beaches), because they don't want to get black from the sun, yet they've just gone out in the back of a pickup at 11.45am in the blazing sun, to throw water. Their logic escapes me!!

After drinking my guts out for four days in a row, I had to take the last two days off. I stayed home with the dog while my wife went out cruising with her friends. I was recuperating nicely in the air con, but fark me it was hot outside. Today, I felt much better and after 2 minutes in the back of the truck, I realized why songkran exists.

It's a very cheap way to keep millions of people cool.

The religious aspect of songkran is an anachronism. Repeated dousing in cool water keeps millions from losing it. I have a sister-in-law who is 8.9 months pregnant. I can't possibly imagine being her.
