If you want to be where all the Thai action is then Nong Prajack Park is probably the place to be.

The official Songkran dates are Wednesday 13th April to Friday 15th April inclusive.
Yep,Nong Prajak is definitely the place to be for viewing the "Miss Wet T-Shirt competition." 8)

However, note that the pissheads are probably going to be out in force from Saturday 9th April to Sunday 17th April ! ;)

The road around Nong Prajak kicks off every night with fighting.
Young pissed up village guys, form gangs and ride out on their girlfriends motorcycles to fight and clobber the guys in the next village.
2009 had my head stitched up when someone spitefully threw a lump of ice at me.
Once you have seen it once that's enough, we are off to Songhran Free Hong Kong to spend a week with my sister-in-law.
Avoid.

if you have not been to nong prajak you've got to have a look once, just make sure you dont have a new pickup cause all the people climbing all over your car trying to wipe that powder on your face scratches your car up.other than that we had a ball. =D>

The best place to be when Songkran is on is anywhere away from Thailand!. After the last two years where for two weeks I can't walk to the nearest shop or bus station without getting iced buckets of water thrown into my face. I will never spend time there again until the police or authorities see sense enough to introduce some kind of rules and official start/ finish times.
Over 600 deaths last year, it just brings out the worst in Thai culture. Two days of it would be plenty but two weeks of it turns it to a living hell for some. I will go Cambodia where the festival is practiced but with less jerk heads.

Forgot to add in the harj in Mecca

Basically where u have any festive or celebration activities that involves an entire country / culture etc, increasd deaths will occur.

The issue for Thailand is that the authorities dont really try . Breath testing stations on the side of the major roads, for 5 days per year.

As long as it being seen to be doing something , it peases the Politicians.

I was stopped a few years ago, on the way to KK, tested negative and all happy. Pulled up at the same place 2 days later and waved through - reason , I was tested 2 days ago and they remembered me !! WTF.

From what i have observed before at these places , the car is impounded, licence removed from you and u will appaer in a court later.

But im sure local facility fees could be paid to ensure a smooth setlement of the situation, once the driver has been re tested for a 0.00 M/mol reading

nong hong song doesn't ring a bell. Can you give me an idea of where the village is (how many km from Udon and in what direction).

It seems like most Tambon's have lakes these days......and most run some sort of Loy Kratung festival.......but if you want crowds and entertainment, Udon would be the place to be.
