Falang Alley to be knocked down - Finally
Falang Alley to be knocked down - Finally
Heard from a reliable source that Falang Alley including all the shops at the front..and Mr Tongs, will be bulldozed at the end of the month/next month.
Has anyone else heard anything?
I would be surprised if it is true as Tong has just refurbished his place....som nom nar as they say

I heard the same story too (yet again), but whether it will actually materialize this time is another matter. Apparently 'Central Shopping Mall' has purchased the land and will develop shortly, however D2 have signed a 3 year contract which has thrown a spanner in the works. Apparently, so I've heard, the land next to the Irish Clock was cleared for the Central Shopping Mall and not for Top Mansion as previously discussed. If it's true then I would hazard to guess it's to make room for extra parking. Rumours or fact I have no idea.

i think part of the area road faceing will be shop houses back and front with a extra soi behind with a single row of shop houses
extra car parking most units will be for sale between 6 and 10 million baht
this info is 2 years old
the first part as happened next step soi falang gone buy april 08
could be a thai time scale so expect delays
the guy that owns the land over from irish clock will fill is bars up very quickly when this happens if i where down soi falang i would jump very quickly like yestaday with a lot less places to visit overnight expect anyone set up already to do a good trade

I heard today that YES it is finishing on April 30th... I wish I could get my hands on a copy the official notice and scan it so yer missus/significant other could translate it but it seems that if you jump now and close you will get some compensation (amount unknown.) If you wait till the death you get Jack 5hit.

Oh well, that's the end of an era, watch everyone fight for somewhere in Soi Saucy (Sampantanit), and the rents and freehold prices to rocket.
Anyone confirm the rumours that Ban Non the empty land near Nong Prajak where the second hand clothes shops are located, is the next area to become a Goldrush, shopping mall I've heard.
"The photos of Soi Farang being bulldozed would have been an excellent cover picture for the next Issue of the Udon Map Mag".

I'll personally miss the place. I met a lot of people there over the years and some of them were damn nice people. It was like being in a real life soap opera, one of those places you dont find very often. I must admit though, that moving these bars out of sight of the general population is a good idea. Still, it's a shame
