It would appear to be in something of a state of 'flux'.

Asked on Mon., when I went for my marriage visa. Was told with a smile next week. Was down at police station last week, bloke showed me new imm., was only bare walls, no roof or windows. IMO i would say next month. But this is Thailand, anything is possible. I want to know why the move. The airport IMO was ideal. Ample parking and room etc. The police station has only limited parking.

Yes, the parking is a real problem downtown

The building is now ready and awaiting the office furniture to be put in place ect.

I met up with Inspector Thanapong Mokthong this morning when I went for my latest update.

He is the officer in charge at the airport and will be doing the same at the new location.

He saw me looking around and asked me to come inside and see how it looks.

He was taking photo,s and was very friendly indeed.

He pointed out were the seating would be and other things in general.

You could tell he was very pleased with the final result, as was I from a visitors point of view.

Regarding the concern over parking, he said there would be plenty of space after the building debri is cleared away near the building.

( Although there is plenty of space at the airport, I never saw many vehicles parked up there during my many visits and going on that, I reckon there will be. )

In any case there are lots of areas within the police compound to utilise, should anyone need the additional spots.

Location wise, depending on were you are coming from, it will suit some and not others.

The best way to get there from in the town is on Phosri Road either just before or just after the Kasikorn bank.

There is a very large Toshiba sign in red lettering on the top of the electrical building opposite the side road you have to enter.

It can be easily seen from a fair distance away but don,t forget to take care if you are driving along and looking for it.

There is also a the usual large marble setting with Udon Immigration in gold lettering that you can see from the main Phosri Road.

Personally I will be well pleased as I can get me letter from the K. Bank and walk across to the Immigration office.

Most of the other banks are also within a short distance, should anyone need them.

I have met several officers away from Immigration and all have been very polite and relaxed, which to me, shows the stress they are under on the job does make a difference.

May we all get along in a more friendly / relaxed way when it is moved to the new site.

Incidently for those who have been here some time, it,s on the site of the old building which they knocked down to make way for the new one.

Hopefully it won,t be much longer.

Stay cool and just smile if you feel the need to blow off some Western style steam.

BTW I know this may sound stupid, but I do not know where the Police Station is thus the new office. Is it possible someone provide GPS co-ordinates or a Google Earth reference.

I dont see any indication that it is within the police station looking at the directions?
If its off Postri road, The police station is not there!

If on Phosi rd you can't miss the red Toshiba sign, the attached map is the general area of the police station.

The Phosri Road entrance is actually the rear access to the police station mortiboy.

The station couldn,t be seen very well before from this point, but now the large Immigration sign I have mentioned for a reference in my last post, gives a very good indicator, it really is a large gold coloured sign and even for a blind old bugger like me, can easily be seen...

There are several points of access that I know of by the way for anyone not familiar with the main police station and it is opposite the Udonthani Jail.

One at the front on Srisuk Road, one at the side and another at the side going towards the Bangkok bank were all the crash vehicles are stored plus others of course.

The Udonthani Prison / detention centre is practically opposite the police staion on the junction of Naresuan Road and Srisuk Road.

Most people will know were this is if you ask were the " cook "is ( splet as its pronounciation sounds by the way, courteousy of my dear wife )

Naresuan Road is the access area for the side entrance i,ve mentioned by the way.

If you are coming from the directions of Macro / Big C or from Khon Khen the chances are you should arrive at the fountain roundabout and can turn into the lower part of Phosri Road from there that you need for the Immigration office.

They points can also be easily picked out on the local map.

(Thanks Papa G, just noticed your most welcomed post when previewing mine which I,ll still submit to compliment yours ) =D>

Good luck everyone and here,s to the anticipated move.

i had to go down phosi road this morning and saw the new office, i came from big c direction and as i came off the fountain circle the red toshiba sign was easy to see. just past the shop the sign is over, turn left. do not remember seeing any name sign for the soi. coming from thungsi muang turn right about 50 meters after the k bank. if you drive more than 50 meters down the soi you will most likely have crashed into the outer wall of the office and destroyed the one meter high sign "udon thani immigration"

Did my 90 day report this morning and talked to the wonderful Capt. Maneeporn Boonlieng.

While one of the staff processed my report we talked about the move and like the officer in charge, she was really pleased with the new building and was looking forward to going there.

She is the second in command and my, how friendly she was and spoke of the proposed move to the police station.

Her English was very good indeed and the conversation went un interupted with no difficulty, if only I could speak Thai as good.

I mention this as she will be a great asset to us the visitors and I cannot see any misunderstandings as usually happens, language wise

It is scheduled to be open for business on the 29-12-2010, providing there are no unforseen hickups.

She has come from Suwanapoon and mentioned how chaotic and frustrating it was / is down there.

I am telephoning her re the soft opening prior to the 29th so I can pass on the info to the forum, if there is no mention of it before hand.

She said there would be 13-14 staff in attendance when the move is done by the way.

I re visited Phosri Road this morning and noted they are fitting Aircon units in all the rooms...Good news or what.

The guy who did the second in command before must be number 3 now as she was signing the various applications on behalf of the absent O. I. Charge.

One thing I noticed was that a car was in front of the Immigration sign so let us hope they put some sort of restriction there.

In any case as H.Y. has mentioned the red sign is an easy marker and the building itself is a nice light blue / white colour and cannot be missed.

I renew my married visa yesterday, arrived at 1400 thinking the worst, no one was in there. One hour twenty mins was out. Much easer then the Bangkok Bank that took two and a half hours to type four lines, and still it was wrong.

My wife was asked if she would like to make a Thambon to the new building as there were no chairs.....gave her some paper to write how much she gave. I did asked about the change from my 2 thousand bath for the visa that did not come back. I gave that to them to....

Went Friday to renew my retirement extension and as you say it took longer in the bank than it did in the Immigration office. We were only in the office for about 15 minutes but this time I was asked draw a map of where our house is. (Never been asked that for a retirement extension before). I'm absolutely rubbish at drawing and when they saw my sketch they burst out laughing and the immigration officer actually drew the map for me.
Also, previously the immigration wanted to see the bank letter with exactly the same figure as the bank book but this has changed also. The bank gave me a letter with my last 3 monthly balances but different as to what the last figure in the book was. This was also accepted by immigration. I got my 100 Baht change back but we also were asked if we would like to make a donation which we did.
Has anyone else been asked to draw a map of where they stay for a retirement visa/extension and the new bank letter wording??

Wee Jimmy.

Thanks for that post WeeJimmy! I will be going for a retirement renewal soon, and I plan to have a letter of income notorized by the US Embassy in Bangkok. My monthly income is adequate so I won't need to show proof of any money in savings. Has anyone else already used this method, and if so, will the letter by itself suffice, or do they ask for any additional proof to back up the letter. Also, if one swears under oath at the Embassy so far as the amount of monthly income, does the Embassy ask for any proof to back it up?

Semper,
I'm from the US and on my second Visa (non-imm for Retirement). The US Embassy does not ask for any proof of income to get the income affidavit. I renewed at the Nong Khai and the Udon Airport immigration offices, both accepted the affidavit alone.

Why donate to a government office that's already charging you a fee for service? I'd feel better making a donation to a village school or temple.
Wee Jimmy wrote:Has anyone else been asked to draw a map
Yep, the maps a new requirement. Best to draw one up before you get there to save time.

Did mine last month. Map WAS required, but no bank letter was asked for (even though I had one), they were ONLY interested in my Income Letter from the Embassy.
