By air, 30days, via land 15 days...free.

If you mean the promotional 60 day free tourist visa going on a while back, I think that's over with.

Visa exempts are just as papaguido describes. There is no free tourist visas.
If traveling by air be aware that without a Visa and on onward or return ticket within the 30 days the airline may refuse you travel.

As far as I know there are and have never been "Tourist Visas on Arrival." There is Tourist Visa and there is Visa on Arrival (VOA). You have to apply for a Tourist Visa at home before you leave or you just get on the plane without a visa and get either Visa Exemption or Visa on Arrival, depending on your nationality.

Technically, it's not VOA (Visa on Arrival), it's a Tourist Visa Exemption, which is good for 30 days and free on arrival:

She can buy a Thai SIM on level 2 at Swampy, as she exits the arrivals hall. ToT, Dtac, and maybe others.

Is her phone unlocked? Most phones sold in the US are locked and only accept a particular service provider.

Valid point, Papaguido! The good side of it is that most of these phones can be unlocked here for a few hundred bahts. :D

Hi,
Paps is spot on, as the Royal Thai Police, Immigration, leaflet says. A visa for Los must be obtained outside the Kingdom of Thailand, from a Thai Embassy or Consulate.
You will be able to stay in Los, for 30 days, with the stamp issued at imm., on entry. You can get a extention, i don't know the max. you can stay this way. I once got an extention to my P. to Stay, from Imm., for 14 days, at a cost of 1900B plus photos, copies of P.P., and all paper work. Plus air ticket. Worked out a total of about 2,100B at Patts imm. I applied one afternoon and picked it up the next day. Did' not fancy doing a border run.
