Has anyone who has recently filed either a retirement or marriage extension at Udon Immigration and using the proof of income letter/affidavit from their embassy or consulate had to take the letter/affidavit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chaeng Wattana, Bangkok to get the consular stamp and signature on the letter/affidavit verified?

I got retirement extesion on Nov 22. Used income letter from US Embassy with no additional review or stamps.

Actually, it was almost too easy. In and out in less than an hour.

Hi Tam, I got my letter in late August, as renewal due 6 September. Took to Udon Immigration, about 25 mins later walked out the door. No mention of taking anywhere else, and everybody happy.

Very reassuring there, thanks. The 90-day guy wanted to see my passport yesterday which I wasn't carrying and he visibly bristled at that. Then started to mention the needs for the 'first-time' extension filer like bank accounts and seasoning, etc.. It was their rather dated printout of requirements that states the MFA certification so maybe that was needed in 2008 when they made up the list.

The MFA certification isn't needed, tam,as the Immigration Office accepts the "official seal" shown on the UK Embassy letter as proof of your income.

OK, good to know. It was mentioned in their 2008-vintage advice sheet I picked up yesterday and since I had done marriage extensions in Udon back in 2010-12, I didn't recall them being needed back then either. I know that there are some jurisdictions that do insist on them but they must be a rum lot if they're dealing with if they're passing off forgeries.

Not about certification, but just got my Income letter back on friday from the British embassy - 48 hours after i emailed my form and documents in. That was quite a surprise! I was expecting it sometime in January. For once, a job well done, embassy.

Pay by credit card (or debit card). They charge you in pounds so no nasty conversion fees.
