ADSL Modems

Post by fussychunk » October 10, 2009, 1:52 am

The daft bat is having problems with her modem which is a cheapo model provided by the internet company, we only have a 3mb connection but it is reasonably reliable.

I have a couple of adsl modem routers of various brands spare of a UK spec. Will these work in Thailand with the Thai ADSL network.

If they do not work, what modems do the forum recommend that can be purchased for a reasonable price in Udon Thani.

Thanks

Fussy

Dave, get her to take the modem into the office if TOT of TT&T, they both exchange free of charge.

Hope your keeping well :D

The UK spec modems will work but 'may' require some configuring, I was using my old Netgear modem from the UK with TT&T before, and it did improve the quality of the connection. I would advise getting one of their engineers round to set it up for you if it does not work when initially connected.

The Chinese modems they supply here are a little on the duff side imho.

What would be a good ADSL router to purchase here to replace the TTnT PTI brand router?

What price should I anticipate, since I will be in Udon today? :D

TP Link, Netgear and another brand that I cannot think of right now are all pretty good with international support websites and a good warranty.

Prices I have seen them for vary from a little over 1000 baht right up to around 2500 for a good wireless modem/router.

They did have a good offer in the IT place in the Big Jieng complex in Nong Khai last week, 200 baht off of a TP link modem (can't remember the model), total cost 1090.
