problem with thai characters

Post by kopkei » December 19, 2010, 10:01 am

i have a program to learn thai , also writing system, it was always working ( and still) on my old computer, but since i changed to a new one, i am unable to get the thai characters ,instead i am getting ,fe D, F,% etc instead , i think it must be a setting problem somewhere , or can it be that my former computer had XP , and now i am using vista, it's not working?
thanks for any advice as i am not really a computer expert......

1. Click Start and then Control Panel
2. In Control Panel, if you are in Classic View, click on Control Panel Home (top left corner)
3. Open Clock, Language, and Region
4. Click on Regional and Language Options.
5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab and then click Change keyboards.
6. Under Installed services, click Add.
7. In the Add Input Language dialog box, select the keyboard layout you would like to add from the list available and click OK.
8. The keyboard layout you added will be included in the list. To set the new layout as your default, select it from the list. Click OK to save your changes
9. You can switch between different input languages (= keyboard languages) by clicking on the Language Bar button or by pressing the Alt + Shift keys

What program are you using for learning Thai? How do you like it?

thanks jello. it is not a keyboard problem i think , as when i click add, thailand i also all ready selected i think as it has a + in front , i can type thai also but , inside the program the display they show of the letters is not thai, looks like the thai characters are not recognized , nothing to do with typing....
it is a very good program thai -english, for learning to speak and write...., if the characters are shown good.......

If you have the CD-ROM for Vista you can try this-
Add language support

1. Click Start and then Control Panel
2. In Control Panel, if you are in Category View, click on Switch to Classic View
3. Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
4. Click on the Languages tab.
5. Under Supplemental language support, select the check box beside the applicable language collection
6. Click OK or Apply. You will prompted to insert the Windows CD-ROM or point to a network location where the files are located. After the files are installed, you must restart your computer.

Whats the name of the Thai learning program?

Good Idea to check the old settings.
So you can type Thai and see the characters on the screen correctly?
Can you see Thai characters on web sites correctly?
If so, sounds like the problem is with the program rather than with Vista. Perhaps the program is not designed to run on Vista?
Can you make any adjustments within the program such as change the font, font size, or screen view size? You could try changing those to see if it fix's the problem, but I'm just guessing now.

Looks like the program doesn't run on Vista. I found this at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MP ... gesoftware

Courage Thai Interactive v2
